complicated replacement keys! Xantia estate
Hi, everyone. I have just bent my key and it snapped trying to straighten it! I have a 1999 2.00 HDI TD, citroen have said 10 days for a new key? What are my options? Ebay seem to sell them, but all this recoding stuff has me well confused. Could one of you kind people explain the process to me in idiot speak?

You can get another Blank Key.. and get it re cut..
Now this is the EASY bit.. you can then SIMPLY swap your Transponder CHIP from your broken key to the new re cut key.
Easy. NO re codeing needed at all..

Really, that simple! Thanks, the second part sounds ok, but my key is broken, how do I get a new one cut?

Have you only one key?
You could remove the ignition lock from the steering colum, dismantle the lock and remove the old blade, then take both to a Key Cutter and get it copied.

IF the blade is not broken in a lock then just take the blade and Old key to a key cutter, with the new blank one, and he should be able to copy the cut onto the new key for you.

Re: complicated replacement keys! Xantia estate
Thank you all for suggestions. Day four and I am still no closer to an answer to my problem. This is sooo confusing. You guys seem to have good ideas, but the people supplying the keys, fobs, cutting, don't seem to know what they are talking about, or they give conflicting advice. I haven't even found out where the chip is yet. Some say you can wap it some say it is in thekey. Saw an exploded diag on here somwhere, if you have seen it too, could you give me the link? Elaine
ps keep the ideas coming!!!

Sorry, I forgot to say, I have all the key, but the broken off bit is a bit bent. No one seems to be able to cut from the number but Citroen, quote 27.00 but 10 days, cut. Might be quickest option!

Re: complicated replacement keys! Xantia estate
Hi
I have only one key too and my transponder chip is moulded into the key, which doesn't come apart, so I gave up on all the "take the chip out and transfer it" type advice on here.
If you do solve it please post up how you did it, because I'm living in dread of anything happening to my key!
I've been to a couple of highly regarded auto locksmiths, but none of them can supply a suitable key and they weren't very enthusiastic about the idea of me sourcing a blank and getting them to cut it, because of the chip problem.
I have yet to visit a Citroen dealer, though it looks as though that's going to be the answer in the end.
I'm going to need my security PIN and am having no luck getting it any other way!

Re: complicated replacement keys! Xantia estate
It depends on the key design. If it is of the following design there is (apparently) a space in the head for the chip. The top image is of the key blank, the lower is of the fob body;
http://www.key2lock.co.uk/Portal.aspx?page=94&prod=1034" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.gallalock.com/118-291-home/c ... remote.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
You will need to get the fitting kit, to mount the key back into the body. The kit is (certainly until recently) available from Citroen for a few quid.

As long as the new key has a working transponder chip in it, it only needs a Lexia session to program the key to the car.
Unlike C5 transponder keys which can only be programmed to one car and can not be reprogrammed again, S2 Xantia transponder keys CAN be reprogrammed for different cars, multiple times - I've done it myself. So any S2 Xantia transponder chip will do - new or second hand doesn't matter.
Of course to program the key with the Lexia you need the four character confidential code for the car - which if missing needs to be obtained from Citroen...

Try these people for replacement keys

I emailed the guy a photo of my key and he sent back 2 keys within a couple of days.

Re: complicated replacement keys! Xantia estate
I was talking about the folding key blade and plipper fob key!! The chip is easy to remove from them.
You separate the blade from the fob, then open the little black bit on the end of the blade and the chip is in there.
swap ot over to the new blade and job done. Dont for get to swap the locking pcb too otherwise the remote wont work.
this is of course answers for people without lexias.. or key card codes.. I did this with my xantia when I finally got a cruise control ecu and keys. Kept my lock set and just swapped the chip across..
