Peugeot 206 - many faults + PP2000

Post by xsaras4ever »

Hello to all.

We have a 206, 1.4 hdi - year 2003.

We bought it from a "friend" over the telephone as a non-runner. It turns out it had been flooded.

We bought another 206 and swapped over the following

Engine and Gearbox including engine wiring loom
BSI, ECU, Speedo, ignition and calculator.
Complete set of pedals and brake master
Complete front chassis legs.
Front sub-frame
Gear linkage
Carpets, underlay, seat-belts, seats, complete dashboard, speedo, steering column
Steering rack.
Wiper motor.
All lights and indicators
Electric mirrors, door wiring harness, speakers

Basically everything except body-panels and car wiring loom - that was a mistake.

The donor car was a 1.4,hdi with air-con. The receiving car does not have air-con so we removed the pump and plate and fitted a new accessory belt kit and water-pump and timing belt kit.

A lot of work.

Now it starts and runs, all lights etc work, central locking works even from plip on key.

However, the dash is like a christmas tree with some worrying faults.

We went onto PP2000 - we normally use Lexia on our Citroens but this was the first time with PP2000.

It reads the car and finds the VIN
It reads the BSI
It WILL NOT communicate with the ECU.

The following are lit
AIRBAG light, Engine diagnostic warning light,ABS, handbrake/low fluid level/brake force distribution

We tried Diagtool - it read faults P0102, P0113, P0118, P0500 . We cleared them and they have not returned but the dash is still lit - so we have no faith in Diagtool.

The most worrying is the following

1.) Turn on ignition
2.) Temp needle goes to max
3.) STOP warning comes on
4.) Start car - cooling fan comes on instantly and STOP flashes.

Car has coolant in it and we have bled it trough the bleed valve.

Having gone this far we feel we are close to the end but we need help to get there.

Don't ask why we did all this work, please...................

Moved to the Citroen forum to see if it will receive a bit more attention, appears to have landed in the doldrums.

Do you know if it was possible to talk to the ECU whilst it was in the doner car? Maybe send the ECU off for testing at one of the specialist companies? Unfortunately French cars seem to have real trouble with their looms and connectors so it's possible that there's a broken or corroded wire. It maybe that you need to track down a full wiring diagram and start metering out the loom. Renaults are notorious for such faults.

These were the exact symptoms of me removing the temp sensor plug

It seems to be a fail safe, if there is no reading from the sensor then the ecu decides to protect the engine.

Also as someone else said the wiring looms are rubbish in Pug/Cit,I had similar dash fault with a 206 1.9d, ended up scrapping the thing, later found lots of damaged loom in the stuff I chopped out.

Peugeot 206 - many faults + PP2000

Hello to all and thanks for the advice.

We have changed the complete loom in the car - front to back , roof - everthings. Seats and carpets all out and back in again.

All problems solved except for car not starting and abs light on.

Resoldered wires on radio (common fault on pug as part of radio loom is used for ecu !!!!!!)

Car now starts.

Just the ABS light to attend to.

We plough on - we might drive it someday.............

Hello to all.

All problems now fixed and a very calm dashboard.

We changed all the wiring looms from the 2003 car to the 2002 car and changed and rebuilt the rear axle too.

We also moved over the ABS block and all the brake pipes (as they were different)

ABS light stayed on for about 1km but is now functioning properly.

Changing the temp sensor for a new one solved loads of problems - thanks Roadrally

Once again thanks to all
