No consideration given to non-polluting diesels then?

When I see all the crap that VAG and Ford diesels chuck out and never see a hint of any from PSA HDi's, it seems unfair.

Aren't a lot of Ford and PSA diesels one and the same?

Not to mention busses. Those we have running around here appear to be burning coal rather than diesel.

Mike i think what Steve is saying

if you look at the Ford, VW and even Vauxhall of the PSA XUD era, Ford, VW and Vauxhall were more like tractor engines and very unrefined

Malcolm, that's being rude to tractor engines

Unrefind is not the word. An XUD in the 1980s was a revelation. They seem a bit coarse nowadays but by golly when they first came out they took your breath away so bad were the others of the period.

The 8 valve HDi upped the game again by an order of magnitude. Still today an old original HDi is one of the most refined diesels I know. Compare and contrast with the Poxhall Septic next door on an 11 plate. Sounds like a bag of spanners in comparison.

And the smoke made by a lot of moderns compared to the old HDi is unbelievable. So much for FAP filters

Truth is if you want a really clean automotive powerplant then a small petrol is the way to go. I'd think they're overall cleaner now than any diesel, electric or hybrid given how nasty the batteries are...

same old story though Jim

any car that has already left the production line, is/will be producing less green house gas than the house of commons whooooops i mean new cars in the production stages/factories churning crap out for the sake of it, just to keep the production company in dosh,
and not for the good/benefit of human kind

As the article says, this also applies to petrol cars registered before 2006. They will do anything to keep the factories churning out pollution.
It may seem fairly insignificant now but this is a important step against those who choose to or have to run older cars.

So if you can afford a new 4.6ltr Range Rover that's fine, but an ordinary, older 2.0ltr that complies with MOT efficiencies isn't good enough for Boris.

Yes, my reply on the C5 EGR blanking thread tells you what I think of him and his anti-diesel nonsense. I hope he's going to charge his 7500+ diesel buses and 19,000+ diesel black cabs plenty for their part in the pollution.
