Citroen C8 sidelight replacement

Unread post by swervo »

Can anyone advise me on how to remove and replace the front sidelight on a Citroen C8.

I've been trying to figure out how to do this on and off for about a year now.
I can feel the back of the housing and I can see it with the aid of a mirror.

I've taken a picture of the reflection of the housing so you can see what I'm referring to:

(I tried to upload this to the site but it said that the quota has been reached - not sure what that means)

There doesn't seem to be a clip of any kind holding this on and I've tried pulling and sliding and twisting but with no success.
I've changed other bulbs on the C8 many times before but this one I cannot work out and I also cannot find a guide on the web anywhere.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks in advance.

When it had it's last MOT the garage replaced several bulbs that had blown but left this one - presumably because they couldn't figure out how to remove it either.
I suspect that your average Halfords employee might struggle?

To replace the sidelight of the C8 you need to access the bulb through the HEADLIGHT DIPPED BEAM plastic protector. According to the owners handbook you could be easily mistaken into thinking that the indicator protector access point is used - but by removing this you will only find the indicator bulb! The HEADLIGHT DIPPED BEAM plastic protector is the largest of the protectors - twist it approx an 8th rotation and it will slide off. Now the tricky bit! Slide your hand up into the light unit from the back - you will need to feel around for the sidelight bulb holder (use an inspection mirror first if you have one - to try and give yourself an idea of what you are trying to feel for – and to make you aware of where all the wires are) you should be able to see your fingers through the top of the headlight unit and its not buried deep in the unit - feel around gently at this point - it is connected with a couple of wires and it needs to be twisted out - twisting out is the difficult bit - once you have located the bulb holder you need to twist it a quarter turn - its quite hard to twist so be patient and try to get as much grip on it as possible - you will probably not be able to grip it between your fingers due to its location - but with dry fingers you should be able to get it to turn - when turned - it will be released and you can gently pull the bulb holder out. Replace the bulb and then reverse your previous actions to get it back in place and twisted back in again. Good luck!

Thanks Matthew. That's really helpful.
I've removed the dipped beam protector on numerous occasions so I know where you mean.
I had it replaced as part of a recent MOT but it is good to know how to do it for future reference.
