Interesting to consider that car was produced when the Dee was already in pre-production.

I'm enjoying the read; Neil's speech balloon surely omitted pickled eggs though.

Yes Addo, at the end of the counter of the Leeds "Fisheries" (that's what some Yorkshire folk call chip shops) in Scarborough, was a very large jar of pickled eggs which I am sure the sophisticated young woman in the poster just wouldn't have been able to resist!

Find a summer classic car show of any description preferably in a nice location, have a mooch around, bit of lunch, and ice cream and a beer.....

Randomly found the Durham Classic Car show at Walworth Castle near Darlington yesterday and.....great day out!

Steepletone was a very poor quality wireless. Amazed there's any left...

The P6 is one of my very favourite British cars and an Austin A35 was the first vehicle I was ever aware of. Dad had an A35 van when I was just a little lad.

He'd turned the van into a Traveller by putting rear windows in it. I believe in those days vans could be bought free of Purchase Tax (forerunner of VAT) whereas cars couldn't. It was a trivial job to convert the A35.

I never recall back seats in ours and I travelled on mum's lap as a baby and toddler... I can just remember that.

We then moved on to an Austin A40 Farina which did have back seats. The move was prompted by a near-miss accident where I nearly went out through the windscreen. I did indeed go out through a car windscreen some 17 years later but that's another story...

Malcolm!

It was too easy wasn't it, I should maybe have just put up a curve of the bodywork without the lights and a bit of the grill!

here is the A35.... is the A30 the same thing with a smaller engine?

Image

and here is the Rover V8

Thanks Neil :-D

I love those idyllic late 50s and early 60s family scenes around the car. That A40 Farina one is so typical... Everybody looking so joyously happy in the perfect family unit with their perfect 2.4 children, perfect dog and with their perfect car

Citroen did them very well too. There's a good one of an orange DS being taken apart by the family during a picnic... As you do of course...

I'll dig it out and scan it up...

the easiest way to tell the difference between the A30 and 35 was the rear window, the 35 had a wrap around rear screen and the 30 one was a lot smaller,

i had a grey 4 door 35 back in the 80ies which i resprayed black

The A30/A35 is a cute car...

Another way of telling is the A30 never had indicators as standard. It had trafficators.

Retrofitted indicators could never be fitted to look the same as A35 ones due to slight bodywork differences between the two.

and they both had proper suspention, well not quite as we green blooded followers know, but they did have spring sprung suspenders, unlike its slightly bigger cousin the moggy with the orible torsion bar stuff
