any way to find cars ??
I have taken 4 cars to over 300,000 miles now and i would be really interested in finding out where they are now,
Does anyone know if there's a way fo finding out ?, i obviously know the make, model, specification and reg no, just not sure if its possible?

I recall getting an insurance quote on line that is linked to DVLA records, and for interest afterwards typed in my first cars reg no, and it was recognised still and brought up all the details. I guess this means it was still around someplace, I wouldn't expect DVLA to link scrapped vehicles to insurance quotes.
There would be data protection issues around the release of information about the owner of a vehicle, so it's not like there'll be somebody offering a service to put you in contact with the cars' current owners. Not a legitimate service, anyhow [}:)]
However, if people were to register for a service where they allow their details to be disclosed to people interested in the history of a particular car, then that would be legit. How's that for a business proposition for someone? It could be called "Cars Reunited" [;)]

Could work as the current owner may be interested to see where his cars been before so could search for previous owners. My visa was built back in 86 as a group n rally car. I would love to know where its been owned and used etc. It had some welsh rally stickers on it when I got it so I know it lived that way for part of its life

The DVLA will give details to anyone who can show reasonable cause for needing the information. This usually means an insurance claim etc.

Darren,
I'm an HP field service engineer, i specialise in big business printers and travel all over the country fixing them, sometimes even abroad, i've been to germany, france and italy and even the magnus oil rig platform off the coast of germany on business, when i was on Magnus, the weather closed in and i was stuck there for 6 days before i could get off, those places are amazing, like a mini town, it even had a 2 screen cinema and a shopping mall !!
Having checked, i only took 3 cars over 300k, 1,BX tzd turbo estate owned from new, died at 340k after ingesting all its coolant, 2, renault espace rxe 2.2 petrol, its third gearbox went at 306k and i gave up on it then as they were a grand a piece!, 3, XM 2.5td exclusive, head went for the 4th time at 331k and the rad was totally blocked so i gave up and got a new car (always regretted getting rid of that one, it was the best car i've ever owned)
There are a raft of other cars i've owned totaling about another 260k, one of them was a Seat Leon cupra (225bhp petrol), got rid of that after going to court and getting 11 points and a big fat fine for speeding, the court made me get rid of it in exchange for not giving me a ban, i bought a peugeot 406 1.9td instead that gave me no end of problems

Heh!, trip to the oil rig involved driving to luton, plane trip to scotland, andother small plane trip to small scottish island (cant remember the name) and then a helicopter transfer to the rig itself, it was quite an adventure, i had 2 hours training before the heli trip on how to put on my dry suit (in case the heli went in !!) and then there was a full days health and safety training before i was allowed anywhere, i got to the printer in the end and it took me 15 minutes to fix it !!, cant remember how many people were on board, must have been quite a few as it was huge, 11 levels in the living accomodation
If you register on the "My RAC" bit of www.rac.co.uk there is a vehicle check bit that tells you when the car last changed hands and how many owners it has had. I assume if it is officially scrapped they are removed from the database
