A newbie here seeking advice on a problem that appears to affect most cars on the road today, the esp/abs warning lights came on so had it plugged in and the fault was recording a brake light switch which was changed for a new one, lights out all good for a couple of days now back on, plugged it in still saying brake light switch but the garage has said it could be one of the wheel sensors my original thought before plugging it in but why would it not show the wheel sensor(s) as the fault rather than the brake light switch.
I'm prepared to change all four sensors but am I wasting my time, the car has completed 80,0000 and other than this runs great.
Thanks for looking and all help appreciated
Geoff

Re: 407 ESP & ABS
I'd get a Planet diagnostic. Brake switch and ABS sensor faults are completely different codes and would come up as so.
Was it a genuine brake switch or a cheap copy? The genuine one comes with a new piece of wiring, hence why its dearer (£22) that the £6 Euro Car Parts ones.

Hi Gibbo
Yes the replacement switch was a genuine part also included the additional wire connection piece, the garage I use is an independant one near to home handy for MOT's all I saw was him do was plugged his laptop in and read of the screen I'm guessing then a universal code reader rather than a Peugeot Planet, does that mean I need to find a garage with a Planet reader? Hopefully not a main dealer.

If he used a laptop then there's a good chance he had a Lexia cable and used Planet or Diagbox. Most garages tend to use hand held code readers.
There's a map of Lexia owners on here. Much cheaper and usually better help and advice than dealers who usually charge £80+VAT.

Hi Gibbo
I have found an auto electrian who will plug it in next Wednesday, it's a free plug in if he does the work to solve the problem or £15.00 for the fault(s) and I do the work, so he can have it and do the repair because I'm sick to death of it now.
I'im tempted to invest in a good fualt code reader as I'm sure this won't be the last time warning lights flash up.

If you've got a 407 it will be a very useful bit of kit! Plus if there's no other members near you, you can make a bit of beer money offering diagnostics.
Don't waste time with generic readers, get the Lexia kit from Ebay or a recommended supplier.

Make sure that it uses a current version of Diagbox. Some of the Chinese clones are blacklisted, and can only use Diagbox up to version 5.29.

Yes, you ideally need REV C Lexia hardware.
However, all is not lost if you have a REV B model like I did, as you can upgrade the firmware on the device.

I once got 3 faulty brake switches in a row for a VW from ECP, superb quality.Gibbo_Wirral wrote: The genuine one comes with a new piece of wiring, hence why its dearer (£22) that the £6 Euro Car Parts ones.

It has been resolved, the brake light switch and the ABS sensor, did the ABS sensor on Saturday pig of a job and not to be undertaken with an almost full tank of fuel, who at Peugeot decided it was a good design to run the cables over the top of the fuel tank needs shooting anyway all lights out.

Re: 407 ESP & ABS
I've had the annoying warnings on the 407 estate for a while now, been putting it off for ages, just done the rear passenger side sensor.
Fully agree, there must be a better route for the cable to make replacement easier. With the tank bolts loosened. and some string attached to the old one the actual replacement job wasn't too bad. However I snapped off the rear tank strap bolt and spent the next few hours under the car drilling it out
I do have a question though - where are you supposed to put axle stands under these cars? Every-thing's shrouded in plastic and I've no confidence in the sill lowers - my (wide topped, wood covered 3t) jack bent the tongues on the jack point. In the end I did jack it up and put ramps under the rear wheels. Apart from some suspension points that make it narrow to get access any other places to put stands please?
