You need to post up the make, model and year of car to have a chance that somebody could help.

Many later Scenics need computerto rewind pistons back in calipers to get pads in. Maybe on yours too?

Re: fuse for handbrake ??????
A good indy with Clip or equivalent should be able to sort this out. The Scenics are fussy about their handbrakes, as are a lot of modern vehicles. The Prius I had complained after it's rear pads were changed. Do bear in mind that reading a Renault with third party tools can lead to misleading fault codes - assuming the garage don't have access to a Clip. The Clip (dealer tool) reads codes that are specific to the ECU being tested, give a parameter that can be looked up and conformity checks that should be done in accordance to the parameter given. Some devices need resetting or calibrating after working on them, EGR for example needs it's 'adaptives' reset after replacement or dismantling.
I changed the rear pads on both my Scenics but they didn't complain. I found it easier to remove the calipers for a good cleanup and wind back the pistons whilst holding it in a vice. Pulling the red lever does seem to lead to problems and should be a last resort.

Steve.
