Another of those "Hmmm..." moments

Post by addo »

Last time I had the 605 on the hoist, I noticed an odd localised outbreak of aggressive rust under the rear seat area, left side.

I've had the back seat out recently to clean and feed the leather intensively (used Leatherique; oil good, cleaner so-so) and during a cleanup of the underseat areas started to join the dots... The boot carpet had odd oily stains in it, which I eventually removed by scrubbing and hosing the carpet out of the car. There were buildups of white powder in one corner that followed the line of spillage, down towards the underseat rust. It wasn't acidic like battery acid, it wasn't detergent in nature when wetted... Going out on a limb, I'd say "precursor chemicals" for drug manufacture have been spilled in the back some time past.

I heard a story once about a BX (I think) which had been subject to a similarly shady past. A brake light bulb blew so the owner went to fit a replacement only to discover a suspicious looking bag of white powder...

A woman that used to sell odds and sods at the local car boot fairs had a Subaru that was her pride and joy. Kept on her drive, alarmed to the eyeballs, locked posts and gates and a high wall.
She looked out one morning and there it was... Gone!

Reported stolen, the police found it a couple of weeks later. She went and retrieved it from the police compound but was stopped a couple of days later as it was still on the stolen list.

Cops checked it out, searched it, took her and it to the police station to confirm it was hers, was no longer stolen and all was good.

That weekend, giving it a thorough clean, she discovered a kilo of cocaine in a plastic bag under the back seat.

No idea what she did with it.

I found about 100g of weed in the 1968 Beetle we bought in Brazil many years ago. You really don't need to ask what happened to it do you?

Nope. It was for me. Very nice it was too. I felt thoroughly composted.
