citroen synergie 2.0 hdi y reg oil leak near injectors

Unread post by shahidocean »

guys
i just bought a synergie vin VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] its got 337k on it.
just noticed that when i first ran it had a oil leaking from what looks like the injectors, there's a pool of oil there
the oil level from dipstick was about 1cm above the bottom notch i refilled it bang on the centre and then ran it on the motorway for about 50 miles and checked the oil again
and it was still bang on ... wondering if that's serious ? also anybody know exactly what engine is in it ... i love the hdi engine and the feel and drive of the synergie.
hope i'm not going to be out of pocket ...

thanks in advance

Mine has a small leak on the rocker cover gasket that makes a mess near the injectors, I will sort it pretty easily, make sure its not a diesel leak.

good point stewart, i'll double check that tommorow .... may sound stupid but how can i tell the difference between engine oil and diesel ... the oil is very clean i would have thought if it was engine oil it should be black ?

Mop some up with a bit of white kitchen paper, it should be pretty obvious.

I had this on my Xantia, was loose injector(s) and failed seals. At sometime previously someone had over tightened the clamp bolt and stripped the thread on no.4. It had been helicoiled but this had failed.
It wasn't very hard to drill the hole out a bit and tap it to take a slightly larger stud and nut. Had to drill the clamp and washer out to take the larger stud, did it all in situ with a cordless drill.
If it is leaking from the seals, they're very cheap from Citroen and changing them is very easy, a bit like changing sparkplugs. The head's aluminium so be careful not to overtighten the clamps.
At 337k!!! I'd say it might well need some new seals.
Cheers

If its neat diesel I would think its coming from the leak off connection.

mine has this too. looks serious but I don't think its anything to worry about.. a gradual build up over years.. a minor Hdi issue,, ignore and drive.

cheers john, but the engine is really hot and the diesel was smoking. i'm sure it could catch fire easily if it was petrol it'd already have burned us up :) anyways the mechanic sorted it out today. i mopped up some of the stuff and smelt it it was pure diesel. the car hasn't been used and i checked it before driving since then its only done about 40 miles and the diesel was pouring all down the engine making it look like an oil leak :) its a very simple repair you could probably do it yourself but carefully . personally i'm going to get a mechanic to replace the seals just to be safe ...
