Insurance for 2-3 Months Only

Post by evilally »

I need car insurance on an extra car probably only for a couple of months. Temporary policies are a complete waste of time as the cost is huge. In most cases I'd actually just be cheaper hiring a car, ridiculous. The other alternative is to take a standard policy then cancel it when I no longer require it, but most have a £50 cancellation fee. First Direct have no cancellation fees and sounded promising, but they won't cover the car because it has an ECU remap  Does anyone have any bright ideas?

I would take the cheapest you can get on confused or compare the market, keep the mileage on the policy down and cancel it when finished with it. That's the only way I can see.

I'm beginning to think this is the only option. I'm surprised there aren't any insurers offering this, there must be a market for folk that only insure cars for certain parts of the year? Summer cars etc?

How about paying monthly and just stop the direct debit when done with it, and tell them.

They'd still charge a cancellation fee then :(

Is it to cover another car your taking off the road to work on at all during the period?

One reason why i have a collectors/traders policy! for the price of insuring 2 cars i currently have 4 on the policy and have had 6 at one point :)

Not as much as you think but pm me if interested :)
The thing I love about it is while it took some faffing to setup I can just go look at a car that's up for sale and if I don't like it I can walk away.
If I think it's worth a punt I can send a text and it's insured straight away and on the MID :) simples!!

I'm afraid though if you just cancel a direct debit then you'll find red letters and the like coming your way from an insurance company but that's just my thoughts on it :)

My Clio has long since stopped being a daily driver, I really only use it at the track. I was starting to get fed up paying £250 tax and ~£300 insurance each year for a car that hardly touches the public road. I've actually bought a trailer for it but it won't be ready for a while. Admiral multicar has given me not a bad deal, in the past I've never found them any cheaper than 2 separate policies. Anyway, both the 406 and Clio insured fully comp with business use for £400. At least when the next bit falls off the 406 I've got a backup car.
