How could anyone lets their brakes get so bad???

Post by waynedance »

Had an xantia in today saying poor brakes and steering.

Well no fluid in tank as all leaked out of the caliper, how would you not know your brakes were this bad must of made a right noise. Worn that much the pad disappeared.

Would not believe that was a vented disc!!!

Replaced the caliper, discs, pads and handbrake cable. Front tyres are also like slicks, the car is in a right state and looks like a dog lives in it dog hairs everywhere.

That is shocking

I can only imagine when that car was last serviced.

Agreed. There should really be some kind of common sense & basic mechanical knowledge/sympathy testing before a driving test is carried out.

It's very easy for just about anyone to get behind the wheel of a car, its pretty alarming really.

I have never understood why there isn't a proper visual - i.e. Wheel off check of the brakes at an MoT test. They're so hot on everything else. I don't get it. It doesn't take long to whip the wheels off.

You would be surprised it can take ages to take a wheel off when the customer has left the car and you can not find the poxy locking wheel nut. A lot of folk look at you gone out when you ask where the key is and the places they hide/store them.

Yeah, thats quite bad!!! Surely though you'd feel the performance drop in the brakes??
does beggar belief how some people manage to drive completely disconnected from the car!

And that was all he said, no expression at all.

Yep, was asked to check out a "grinding noise" on a mate's Fiat 500. No material left on the pads at all, metal against metal. I told him he needed new brakes and it wasn't even safe to drive the car home, to which the reply was "Oh I can't afford that", as if it were optional

Brakes in that state, and a driver who might have set off before the "STOP" light goes out, what the hell, that driver is lucky they have not been in an accident, because of the lack of maintenance!

You can't do that, you can't expect folk to have common sense nowadays. We have procedures and people employed to make sure you don't need to use any kind of common sense.

And no, I'm not being flippant, that is the state of play now in a hell of a lot of our everyday lives.

If in future you do use common sense you will have to have been trained in the application of it. Sad but true!

Whats So very sad is This ^^ is So spot on! it seems with the over legislating of almost Everything and health and safety Covering people are simply not using common sense!!
reminds me of the 2 people in seperate hospitals in different parts of the country that didnt think Smoking inside an Oxygen tent was a bad idea!! then when the parents/other halfs/siblings tried to sue for it they couldnt understand why they were laughed at!! 'They were not told Not too'!!
Beggars belief really!

is the same with teenagers now, Oh, i crashed my car into a hedge, Why?? the road was slippery as it had rained! so its Gods fault then?? Yup, it wasnt my fault......... Or the old classic, The car infront Stopped too quickly........

In the supermarket car park I spotted a car with the O/S/R tyre very very low I.E. no tyre pressure.

I pointed it out to the driver, and they were not aware of it, and had not noticed it.

The fact that I was pointing out was news to them!

How dumb is that driver?

The car was leaning, it's handling would have been crap.
It would have been wandering, and the braking would have been poor, and obvious to anyone with common sense.

Common sense was lacking in this case!

I have seen a photo of a ventilated disc that was worn right through the outside face, and the pad had been rubbing on the vanes inside. Now THAT must have been noisy
