C5 Mk.1 & 2 Owners.. Handbrake Cable Ideas

Unread post by citroenxm »

Just had a thought spurred on by a Handbrake Question on C5's below.

C5 Owners, we all know what PITA the cable guide tube are to change, but this Tube idea is NOT limited to C5's most later PSA cars use the idea.

Anyway, the tubes sit in such a way that the ends point UPWARDS in the Arch's, they are meant to be sealed where the cable meets the tube, but this doesn't happen.

So last week I did a tube and cable change, and its was a PITA!

So, as an idea, whats the harm in working out a cable length, then working out an outer cable length from the point it meets under the car in which a NORMAL cable would meet perfectly, to the Caliper where the small cable currently meets, this SHOULD be a possible thing if we know of a company that would make a cable to someones REQUEST...

Thoughts on this C5 Owners???

Try rotating and pulling the cable out of the tube with an electric drill, tried a better decription in the original post, it worked for me but I've only had to replace the one.

Andy.
If it can happen it will.

Try Cablecraft. http://www.cablecraft.ie/products/contr ... blies.html.
These guys really like to help. I have used them several times for one off and oddball cables. Add the length of the tube to the existing conduit length. Increase the length of the inner cable by the same amount. They have guides for describing what you need. I thought of doing this but just replaced the cables and tubes as a unit.

Its sounds good as long as when turning on full lock it does not interfere with the wheel and does not create slack. I think the position of the guide tube end under the wheel arch is critical to keep the handbrake cable away from the wheel. Sounds like a possible handbrake conversion kit though?
