knocking in c5 engine.

Re: knocking in c5 engine.
I was thinking the same myself! I wasn't on the FCF back in 06 or 07 when the early Xantias would be the same age as the early C5s are now. I wonder if there were as many posts with weird problems? Were the BX crowd all saying the number of their posts were being overtaken by Xantia posts?

Re: knocking in c5 engine.
When I joined after buying my first C5 then C5 posts were quite a rarity.
There has been a fairly steady increase since then.

Re: knocking in c5 engine.
Injector knock goes away when the engine is warmed up My Xantia 1.9TD had stuck injectors and they knocked badly
when the engine was cold but as soon as it warmed up the knocking stopped completely, stuck injectors can also make the engine hard to start from cold to. my cam belt went two years before its time because the cam belt was over tightened and this destroyed the toothed crankshaft cambelt pulley behind the auxiliary belt pulley the damaged cambelt pulley cut through the belt and snapped the camshaft in half.
all fixed now though thanks to Xac and Jim on the forum, and Barry at Bourne Citroen.

Re: knocking in c5 engine.
Ok bump. Just taken to garage. Bloke in garage checked all the bits n bobs and nothing was loose.
And here's the sh1tter. He says the knocking (which is intermittent) is coming from inside the engine.
So just spent a couple of grand on another duff car????

Re: knocking in c5 engine.
It sounded to me like a tensioner, could be on the cambelt or perhaps an idler, didn't sound very serious to me. Is it getting any worse?

Re: knocking in c5 engine.
Not any worse (the video I posted is not great as the sound aint obvious as it is in real life) but guy checked everything and yes it did seem to me first time to be inside engine but then again sound travels.
Wondered if it was the pistons hitting something.
Or timing out. Dunno I know nowt other than "here we go again"

Re: knocking in c5 engine.
Sounds more like a rattle than a knock, do you have any forum members nearby that can have a listen to it for you. I will if you like but I'm rather a long way. Will be in Scotland in May if you haven't got it fixed by then

Re: knocking in c5 engine.
There are only a few things *inside* an engine that can rattle, and a decent mechanic should be able to recognise those. On the other hand, modern engines have a load of ancillary stuff, but most of that is get-at-able without too much trouble, so is less of a problem.

Re: knocking in c5 engine.
What I heard on the youtube clip was a rattle so I must have missed the proper noise.

Re: knocking in c5 engine.
@ sticky - I don't think anyone will want to put a broom through his head just to amplify the car noises ...

Re: knocking in c5 engine.
And how would the broom help me. I know they amplify noise but would it indicate where it is?
Incidentally what with the xantia p1sstake?
