knocking in c5 engine.

My new c5 started a knocking noise after ahout 5 minutes left running while stationary.

I had just fixed up the side undertrays so wondering if it is something to do with that. Noise travellibg but it was knocking and when I lifted the hood it was louder.

Any ideas?

Scared to run it incase ita inside the engine (what do I know?)

If it was a diesel type knock its probably an injector, it may be leaking fuel into the engine on tickover, if you can bring yourself to rev it gently it might clear. If its a mechanical knock most likely the crankshaft pulley

Not sure what a diesel type knocking is. It sounds like somethong solid hitting another something solid.

A diesel knock is a louder version of what the engine does most of the time especially when cold. Did it start knocking suddenly or gradually? I take it that it is diesel.

It started after 5-10 mins running outside the house.

I had never heard it before.

Never had such knocking with other c5s.

Haven't checked oil level just used the digital "oil okay" indication on the digital display when starting engine. So will have look.

Yes its a.2ltr 138bhp diesel

Crank pulleys knock quite badly when they fail. I found they knock really badly when cold but mysteriously quieten when they warm up.

Am I right in thinking you recently bought this car Boris? Was it from a dealer? If so call dealer and explain situation to them and ask them to come collect car and repair because you are scared to drive it and that makes it unfit for purpose.

A camshaft chamge, is that a big job? And expensive job.

I cant advise you about that Boris. I have heard the knocking from the crank pulley on an older hdi taxi I used to drive, It is quite a loud knock and metallic. All I can do is advise you to take it to a trusted mechanic to diagnose it. I hope it is nothing serious and does not empty your bank account to fix.
