It's not a stupid question, it just doesn't have a simple answer! :)

The best answer is play around with it and ask questions about things you're not sure about, you're more likely to get a response to something more specific like "how do I read/clear the fault codes" than a vague "how do I use a Lexia and is there any documentation" type question.

As Mike points out its a dealer tool which was never intended for use by the general public - dealers will have received training on how to use it and have access to official support channels and documentation.

All Lexia's that we have are "grey market" at best, a lot of the documentation (which isn't really needed to use it) is only available through official channels or with the right logins to PSA websites, so we've all had to figure it out without the help of such documentation and share that gained knowledge with each other.

Another thing to check would be to browse some of the Lexia related threads on the forum and you'll find a bit of discussion about general and specific problems and issues.

I would start with trying to get a dialogue with the car in the global test mode under diagnostics to see if it will communicate with the ECU's and read their fault codes and go from there. Then at least you'll know its talking to the car and it only remains to learn how to use some of the more subtle features.

Reading and clearing fault codes, parameters measurements (viewing live data from sensors) and actuator testing (operate actuators manually) are the main useful features of a Lexia, although it can do other things as well.

You probably already have this, but it might be useful:

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Pug308 wrote: I noticed that there is a guided diagnostics mode... Would it be possible to purchase access to this function from PSA on an hourly basis? They seem to offer this for other things such as manuals.
Sorry, not a chance! Also, if you allow your Diagbox to log on to the PSA server, it will probably be deactivated. The primary way to access these functions is to be 'in the trade' with staff who have received the official training to use Diagbox from PSA. You can the hire a legitimate Diagbox set up from them, which currently cost €6595 for a 3 year period, including full support. There is an option for independents who only need to access such function infrequently, which more closely matches what you are looking for. This costs €30 per VIN number for 7 days access, but you would still need to purchase a legitimate Diagbox install and interface from them as well. I don't know what the price would be but I would guess it would be a lot, possibly in excess of £1000. Another interface could be used but this would give limited functionality.

On the subject of Lexia's, can I ask what the cable with the Crocodile clips at the end is for?

I've tried the website and found it to be quite difficult to navigate unless registered and logged in, I used the internal 'contact' system to ask about getting my clone reflashed, got this short email reply signed by Jim.

You need a computer running diagbox 7. The reflash is done remotely through teamviewer.

Today I have installed Diagbox 5.02 and it works fine. On another computer I have installed Diagbox 7.02 and I can access the menu, but when I try to run diagnostics on Xantia it tells me that the card is not properly istalled (or something like that). The interface for Lexia I bought is second hand and is there maybe someway to check if it's original or a chineese clone? Thank you!

If Diagbox 5.02 works fine but 7.02 says "interface card not installed" or similar then its very likely that you do have a Chinese clone interface - which means V5.29 is the latest version you can run. I don't know of any guaranteed way to confirm which type of interface you have other than trying it on a known good installation of Diagbox.

No matter though, as Diagbox 5.xx has everything you need for a Xantia - there is no advantage to going to 7.xx unless you're trying to diagnose cars made within about the last 3-4 years.

The likelihood is that it is Chinese. The Diagbox software is 'aware' of them, and over v5.29 won't accept the 'card'. However, there is a way to update the firmware on the card to something that the later versions of Diagbox is prepared to talk to. I haven't had this problem myself, but I am aware of it. I do know that Easy Diagnostics can re-flash the card, but I don't know the cost.

However, do you need to go past v5.29? If not, save your money.

Unfortunately your problem is that the Lexia component of the software (which loads for old cars like the Xantia) does not work on 64 bit windows.

So you will either need to run it on a different laptop with a 32 bit version of windows, or install a virtual machine containing a 32 bit version of windows - for example you could install the free Sun/Oracle Virtual Box and then within that install a copy of Windows XP SP3.

It won't work on 64-bit Windows. Doesn't matter what you set the compatibility mode to, it just won't.

Sorry Taffy, I forgot to mention that I am running my Lexia on W7 Starter (32 bit). When I ordered it from Easy Diagnostics they asked me what OS (and bit width) I was using, and explained why it won't be of use (to me, anyway) to run it on a 64bit OS. This is because only the most recent cars can communicate in 64bit mode, while older cars use 32bit (and older still use 16bit) comms.

I had same problem, when it goes to Lexia scan window, remove USB then plug back in again after you here the beep. Then click on Lexia should ask for RPO then give access. Worked for me.
