I can't help myself!

Post by Northern_Mike »

Well, I'm going to be needing something to replace the C5 with at some point in the not-too-distant. Curiously it's water usage hasn't been too bad this week. Haven't taken the cap off to check, but as I've had no "top up engine coolant" message, I guess it's ok.

Anyway. Whatever I get *must* be petrol due to the ability to get it cheap, legally.

Am I completely insane considering a C5 V6? I've seen some cracking low miles S1 on 02 and 01 plates for bugger all. Is there anything I should look out for other than gearbox maladies or exhaust rot?

It's going to be that or a 5-series BMW.

Anything a few years old with the killer road tax is worth peanuts. For little money you should be able to get a mega spec C5, if you're up for for membership of the £420pa road tax club.
Personally I'd far rather have the C5 over a 5 series, or any BMW come to that, one of the things about Citroens that attracted me to them was the fact that irrespective of milage they still feel more or less as new, unlike a BMW which feels like it's ready for retirement, compared to new, at about 60k.
C5 V6's seem to be a bit rare, but here's one to look out for in a few years :- http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... en/postcod" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And diesel to boot!
Best of luck with your new quest.
Cheers

I'd never, ever spend more than £2000 on a car, probably half that to be honest. It's simply money down the drain. Anyway, nice though it is, that one is a diesel, not petrol.

My last 520se ( N plate!) had 140k on it and drove like it was new.

You're probably right Jim, it'd make the best choice for what it needs to be used for, and it'd be really nice on the motorway, which is pretty much all it would be used for.

V6 auto petrol are fine........just keep out of town. They drop down in mpg something awful in traffic.

Petrol cars are peanuts with lower miles normally and just as long lived. I have seen Audi 1.8 with 300k.
Vel is £280 road tax. Not bad for a 3.5 .

I think it is just what comes up. There are any amount of cars I would have. It is just that Mrs Lexi thinks certain vehicles should not be brought near her house in case they leak oil, are welded and hammered on a daily basis.....bless her !

I've got a C5 V6 that's waiting for an MOT and then it's going to be advertised for sale :)

Had loads spent on it and had all the common things that they need done, done.

So far it's had:

Timing belt and tensioner
Radiator and replacement pipework
4 Tyres
Genuine Citroen front brake discs
Pagid front pads & rear discs and pads
Exhaust
Sat Nav DVD Player and Disc
Starter Motor
Front brake caliper overhaul kit
Two new rear brake calipers
Genuine Crank shaft sensor
Assortment of nuts and bolts for rear calliper disc retainers, arch liners, belly panel etc

Will have a 12 month MOT on it when advertised.
