c5 stereo problem

Unread post by jgra1 »

not sure what unit I have.. just the basic SX/LX CD player/Radio..,

been fine until recently..,

but last few days, getting intermittent dodgy FM radio.,. and more recently, a really high pitched squeal .. just about audible, and very annoying..

Unit more likely than the ariel? I did notice some water from the rear interior light a little while ago...,.,.,.,

about the same time, a song about raindrops and heads and keeping falling was playing, much to the passengers distaste ;)

if it is the unit.. will anything plug in that still keeps some info for the display screen above the dash>? with the right leads etc

If you swap in another c5 replacement radio it will need a lexia to code it to the car other wise you get a beep over the audio every 5 secs untill you do..

Not sure about an after market unit.. the good thing about the c5 radios is they are in everything.. c2 c3 c4 206 207 307 308 etc so pleanty to choose but be sure to have the same level as yours..

thanks Paul,, got a lex,,,

must admit, as much as I love good music in the car, I am no longer sure I want to lose the OE colours and display etc..

I am rubbish with ICE but some of the past issues.reasoning seemed to be :

1 get a better system eg (dig radio, line in, usb, more amp power) etc
2 get that system to work with OE remote control
3 get something that blended with the lighting of the rest of the dash
4 get something that worked with the LCD display,
5 ?

with xants I managed 1 and 2....

I haven't had one that works properly yet, neither the two C5s or the 406 have had working CD players. I got a new Pioneer radio/CD/USB off ebay for about £45.00 and it sounds about ten times better than the original, the only problem being that the remote controls and display don't work, the remote doesn't matter that much now that radios have a volume control knob that you can see and find without taking your eyes off the road. You can get adapter leads for some sets but they are not cheap. The radio in the 406 still sounds cheap and cheerful and the CD doesn't work but I have not bothered with it as we use the C5 mostly for long journeys.

thanks Peter,., in the past I have fitted a sony to the xant and that has worked with the steering remote..

had to buy a lead as you say.. what would be useful would be a list of stereos that work this way with the C5.. doubt such a thing exists,..,

saying that

Not sure about the squeal (sounds a bit like instability, possibly a failing capacitor),but the aerials are terrible for water ingress into the built-in amplifier. Try a long bit of wire plugged into the aerial socket - it won't give full performance, but if it improves things, it points to aerial trouble.
