Re: Xantia clutch death???
Thats easier said than done fella! One of the downsides of living quite Deep down in Cornwall is locality of parts! Not many yards left this way now, its an hour and half to the motorway! Haha! And now the big comfy barge is out of action it'll be in the lil fiat! Which with the kids has minimal room! It wasnt bought for Space when we boight it in the Early 00's!
i'll give the few yards about a ring, pop up the one in the village and see what they have in, I know of one Xant in a yard, so will be on price more than anything!
Like they say, you pays your money, you takes your choice!

Re: Xantia clutch death???
Tauntons 2 hours from here! Lol, we use that junction when coming back fro$ mothers in Wells, yeah carriage is available, but always good to get one local! Had some issues with gear boxs through the couriers! Dropped on the gear selector and locking it in first, -garage didn't spot it till he'd gone, and a couple damaged from the usual courier careful handling!

Re: Xantia clutch death???
Timmo.. get box and clutch off. and see what's going down
I am out of my depth as I don't tend to go near broken gear boxes.. so its speculations really..
as you have a second car.. you maybe have a little time on this, and other mot worries (tyres, brakes exhaust etc)
as long as the mechanic can wait on your decision etc

My spannermans a good chap but only has a small unit as he's a one man job, so don't want to clog up his space with a big not very easy to move unaided wagon, don't fancy the job on the drive myself!

Re: Xantia clutch death???
I got one for a Xantia from there, it was new old stock, not brand new...and it was rusting in its sealed package... only surface rust but they knocked 25 quid off the 84..Timmo wrote:If i could find a valeo clutch for 50 i'd be chuffed to bits!! ive got in my watching an 'Genuine' clutch - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brand-New-GEN ... 5ae47205e5" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Mother has kindly offered to pay for it top be done for Christmas, so its more a case of getting parts!

Re: Xantia clutch death???
evening all,
having had to go up and back to Mum and dads today int he good ladies car (fiat bravo '99 1.2) i have realised the Xanty Barge is Too comfy to not fix!!!
ive spent a fair chunk of time this weekend searching the net for boxes, trying to work out what various models of PSA cars have the same box, i'm after some advice form the Consortium of french knowledge that is the FCF Boys!! What is the Bets gearbox to look out for?? obviously the BE3 is what is on it, but often on yard wonderings its a lot easier to look at model of car rather than box part numbers! i picked up via google linked to a thread form last week that the hdi90 box will fit with swapping of the clutch cable stop gubbins on the box, if this is so, thats good as the box's listed under hdi90 are cheaper!! i intend on a trip up the yard in the village this week, hopefully tomorrow for a nose, they have often a couple of 306/xsara's and 406's in, so with anyluck they'll have a box and not too Vasalene requiringly expensive either!!
if possible what specific models do i need to look out for Or can you point me to where the be3 will be stamped as such on the casings so i can see if i can find it! - sods law sais on the bottom of the box!
thanks hugely in advance peeps,
Timmo.

If you post the last 8 digits of your VIN up, somebody who knows how will (probably) get the relevant details for you.

Re: Xantia clutch death???
I've found these guy's very helpful for Citroen parts:- http://www.edwardsandson.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; If you need a gearbox.
I'd also try 24/7 parts, when I was looking they came up with loads and the carriage charges were reasonable. Also give A5 salvage near Dunstable a try.
Never done the job myself, but when the clutch went on the old Berlingo company van the workshop swopped the box and clutch complete from A.N.other. To save time or money I suppose.
Cheers
Paul

Re: Xantia clutch death???
nipped up the yard in the village yesterday, Plenty of french options int here for box's, from Base model early 306 to 07 plate xsara, (with most inbetween!) i did howver notice one or two had an Odd clutch arangment,
is this a Push arrangement??

and not really sure quite what arrangement this is??? all appeared on the back of the box

i was somewhat surprised byt he yards prices as generally they are Very cheap, but a box is £100 if i get it out or £140 if they do!
i did also drop in to Southwest Pug/Cit/Renault on the off chance and Low and Behold, out the front sat a Very tidy looking French Sinker!
on asking they did say give them a week as they are waitng for the notice to scrap to comethrough but they would have a box for a xantia (neither yard seemed to understand the box is the same throughout a Load of cars!!) for £100 +vat and if i wanted the amrs too 15+vat (£156 all in for the box and arms)

cant help but feel sorry for the people that came over in the Xant, assuming they havent lived here a while already and just passd it on! but to break down in such a waty that your left with scrapping it musy be horrible!
however, i cant stop thinking that the reconditioned box for £140 on ebay (delivered ) would be a far better bet??

Re: Xantia clutch death???
I wonder what "reconditioning" you get if buying one off eBay. If you were to buy locally, having seen 'box in the car, then you might have an idea of the miles it's done (unless it's on a car with electronic speedo)

Re: Xantia clutch death???
nop the first picy is a pill/back to front clutch
and i cant see what you think is the clutch actuator in the second picy,
if its a manual box the clutch lever will be more towards the front on top of the box, and along side one of the starter mounting bolt heads,
the same place as the clutch fork lever in the fist picy really
Regards, malcolm.

Re: Xantia clutch death???
Thats what confused me malcom, was a manual but didn't have Anything in the usual place on the box, no obvious holes where it could have been removed etc. Just seemed Odd!
The recon box has alledgedly been stripped and cleaned, bearings replaced and assembled, all be it with a very Bizarre paint on the box! Kinda blue over red on the end section, - youd think they would have painted it all one colour! Is tricky, don't want to get a dud in either case really,
