Got an advisory on one of daughters cars for rear wheel bearing on its way out. Spent yesterday removing wheel hub and managed to get the old bearing out of the hub by knocking the sh*t out of it. Don't want to do this with the new bearing, so saw on u-tube some-one putting the bearing in the freezer and the hub in the oven to contract one and expand the other, comments on this please, bit scared of ruining the new bearing doing it this way especially the plastic seal at either end of the bearing.
Cheers
Steve

Don't forget the grease as well. Yes, it can get warmed up when working, but it is in situ, not in an oven.

Re: replace rear wheel bearing.
i usually re/fit bearings with a length of threaded rod, a couple of nuts to fit the thread and various large thick washers,
i also make use of the old inner race's in this device directly against the new bearing,
this way you pull the bearing home,

Re: replace rear wheel bearing.
Malcolm,
You are a life saver, had a search around the workshop and found a bit of big boys threaded rod and washers did as you suggested and bingo its in. Did in fact put the bearing in the freezer over night, maybe that helped as well.
James, I did have these concerns as well, but malcolm came up trumps.
Cheers guys
PS one option I did think of was to use the weight of the car, jack the corner up a bit more remove the axle stand , place the hub and bearing under the car and slowly drop it over the bearing and hopefully press it into the hub, maybe next time.

Re: replace rear wheel bearing.
Yes, I find this can work well. Another option is to use suitable 1/2" drive socket, with the socket's "nut" end pressing on the new bearing's inner/outer facecitronut wrote:i also make use of the old inner race's in this device directly against the new bearing

i would not try this, as i dont think firstly it would put the correct sort of weight onto the bearing, and secondly you will almost certainly not be able to make sure the bearing stays square to the hub carrier,
if all else failed i would go along top a small local garage/workshop that has a press, they will usually help for a small fee/donation to there
