xantia be3 gearbox fitting

Unread post by Bobcat »

Hi all before i go to the trouble of pulling my gearbox out of my xantia, which i know has a pull clutch box, i have been given a push clutch box, my question is can i swap the clutch fork and shaft into the push clutch from the pull clutch box to make it a pull clutch?
all assistance appreciated
Tim

Although the gearbox internals are the same (I think) I think the bellhousing may be slightly deeper on the pull type one. I may be talking nonsense but it should be possible to compare both and see.

At a guess (guess, mind you) your description could imply that the other gearbox is like the ML5T. The clutch on the ML5T is a hydraulically driven push type clutch.

No its not a hydraulic clutch its a cable the box came from a 1993 xantia non turbo and it is a be3,but its a push clutch as the release fork moves out at operation cable supported in the casting of the box,

No - the ML5T uses a hydraulic pull clutch....

Anyhow... all the TDs used a pull clutch, therefore, if the box is fitted for a pull clutch, then the ratios etc are probably wrong. Surely better to source the correct box which will give the correct ratios and fit properly? There are loads, so it shouldn't be hard - Paul has probably got about 3 in his shed

Fit a gearbox from a hdi 90 .. these use cable but push clutch but theres an advantage. The boxs are identical and its a case of fitting the pull clutch cradle on the box.. ie the part the clutch cable attaches too .. this is the only difference between push and pull.. and if you fit a hdi 90 box you will gain a taller 5th gear too.. (yes i have one) :-D

That be3 n/a box will go straight on and needs the cradle from your original box and to be 100% safe swap the release fork over.. you need to remove the clutch release arm on the pull clutch setup anyway to get the box off..
