Xantia td lower engine mount DIY on the car advice!

Morning Fellow Citronians,
i am seeking advice from you all on hows the best way to go about a DIY lower engine mount replacement (round rubber one with the drivechaft through the outer casing) On the car, mines shot and the exhaust is leaking at the manifold ring form movement, so before i do the sealing ring, i want to do the lower mount, i dont have the facilities to split the shaft and remove the mount form the car to press it in in the shed, so will be an up on ramps job,

what advice have you all for doing the job on the car?? ive dropped the mount in the freezer in preperation of doing it, my theory is to remove the old one, tap the old shell out as i'm prtetty sure the inside is no longer connected to the outer shell! and then using G clamps if mine are big enough, wind the new one in Or fashion up a threaded bar type press??

Realistically, am i going to stand any hope with this method?? or am i looking at un named hours of fussing and failure??

If I understand you corectly you're planning to try and do it in the car. It's very straightforward to remove it from the car. The driveshaft can be removed as one unit leaving you free to unbolt the mounting. You don't need any special tools to take the shaft out, but you will need a 36mm socket and 3/4 drive t-bar to undo the hub nut.

You will also need a good length of breaker bar. Had to undo the hub nut on Gracie, and with a normal length breaker bar all I did was give myself a headache. CitroJim has a 5' breaker bar, and the hub nut never had a chance.

It's an impractical approach to try without removal of the driveshaft. The bushing is too tight a fit in the house.

So your kinda saying, Dont do it inplace on the car then! no breaker bars but hubnut socket has been ordered folr use with Ball joint tool as have tjem to do too!

You NEED to take it off the car. Theres NO NEED to support the engine, the upper mount and gearbox mount will support the engine, however, it will swing back at the bottom slightly, but perfectly safe.

I had to remove the mount on a HDi to replace the plastic 4 way water housing above it, bacause of stupid hose spring clips...

engine sits nicely. REMEBER to have a tub ready to catch gear oil that should come out from the gearbox drive shaft place.

I got this job priced up by a local mechanic a few years ago when my TD was still with us. IIRC cost was £40 labour, so it's not ridiculous, just needs a bit of knowledge and some specific tools.

at the risk of being flamed. I and others have done this in-situ? it was a while ago so I may have forgotten something

but, careful use of a hacksaw to cut the outer ring of the bush - having already got rid of the center and as much rubber as possible..

knock the rest of bush out, add some heat maybe to the housing, get new bush from freezer. and knock or press it in..

I don't remember it being the most satisfying job.,. but then I my not have used much heat/cold...

however.. saying all that doing this with the mounting off the car is the proper way really..
