whilst I agree that one or more of my injectors may be past their best, you honestly think that this would cause occasional cold start issues? can you tell me why you think that ?>

well my look on it is that the spray pattern on the injector is possibly not right (by dirty tips?) if it dont spray a nice fine mist then it prob wont combust first time...urs could be dripping instead of fireing and even not all the holes in the tip are clean and a couple are blocked it just wont combust properly...but its running so i would give the injector system some redex or simular to see it cleaning the system helps the starting

I wouldn't try 2 stroke oil in the HDi system! If bad red diesel can kill injectors (EXPERIANCE!) then not sure what 2 stroke oil would do...

Hi John,

They are massive differences on the injectors. BEFORE you rush though, A point I made on my blog was all four of my injectors were virtually indentical with about a -4 flow rate or something, but I had issues starting mine, till I swapped them..

Id be inclined to try injectors... but YES these injectors are NOT cheap! They can be as high as £100 EACH too!

the long break in responding (7 days) is mostly because the car has been fine.... as always it's not started on the first turn.. but its got going well enough for me to leave the easy start alone and just drive it as normal..

in fact, yesterday was the first time I had to reach for the can for many days.. including some colder nights...

odd really.. it seems so intermittent..

anyway, tonight, finally put the new battery in, that I brought a few weeks ago.. its an exact copy of the battery that is in the car.. looks like a cold night, so tomorrow will be an easy test of whether the battery was to blame or not.. I must admit, I never suspected the battery but was a bit desperate..

So.. assuming the car wont behave tomorrow morning, I have a brand new battery from ECP for sale if anyone needs one will add more details in the sale section over next few days..

Changed the air filter tonight, the old was grubby, but disturbingly, wet.. seems PSA still put the intakes low, at nearside wheel ..

one other thing.. I forgot to mention... I did add a tuning box to car, about 2 weeks before the first starting issue in October.. the box plugged into the injection rail... and I still think it's working well..car feels spritely..

but... it is a change and was not long before this starting issue got bad..

Hmmmmmmm John, thats something!

I DO NOT like the Tuning box's that simple fool the fuel pressure reading! The one I had connected in to the top of the fuel injectors.

REMOVE the tuning box, and plug the car back into directly the rail sensor. If worse comes to it, fit a replacment rail sensor.

I removed the tuning box from my Xantia on the FIRST instance when she started playing up, but she still cuts out without the box. Ive not fitted it again, so Im not tempted to floor her and be left standing..

but.. so,, you still got issues? I haven't been to the blog area recently.. you had stalling, and changed injectors (you had a spare set from a 90hp) ? worked for a bit, but its not right still... ?
you changed HP pump I think..

Hi John.

Not a Stall as such but a DEAD STOP cut out! No sign just STOP bang just like that (NOT with a bang)

I swapped injectors, Pump, rail sensor and fuel tank pump and double relay. That cured the starting, and also the cutting out for a week, in which it then returned. She still starts fine, but if driven HARD like foot to floor she will still STOP, but drive like an old man, and light foooted, and you'll never know theres an issue..

Ive got a set of four injectors there, plus a rail sensor.. HDi 90 and 110 8v fuel system are identical...

yours... I know nothing of the HDi but is it overboosting, wastegate stuck or something?
doesn't sound like it would cut engine dead..

injectors shutting down due to electrical fault.. that must be testable with live data? somehow.,.

The Berlingo does this if the tuning box is turned up too high. Cuts out at about 4000rpm if giving it some welly. Otherwise it's fine. I rarely go up there anyway, and have got the box set up so it'll potter easily at 30mph in 4th gear on virtually no throttle.
