Please guys, not another "Independence" debate and finger pointing at fellow member over which newspaper they choose to read. All newspapers have an agenda and political bias, that's how they sell copy.
There are masters of obfuscation involved in our future and the truth is not a subject many politicians are familiar with.
Surely this is not the place to start a political debate, whether you're a 16 year old, an adult, for or against independence or you read the Mail or the Record. It's too volatile and emotive a subject to risk destroying on-line camaraderie.

I don't believe it's sensible to view "stupidity" in the vein of isolated, independent actions. That's almost a housebound pachyderm.

I agree....however no political debate was mentioned. As a Scot living down south (and working undercover to prevent Newcastle being given back) I have some strong options but do not express them...this is not a place to do such.

As I read it it was a lament at the stupidity of "Joe public" and a lament on where they get the limited information they have and how it is served to them to satisfy there limited understanding of anything. Examples exist everywhere everyday.

Indeed. With my moderating hat on for a moment, we don't do politics in any form on this forum and any posts that are overtly political will be edited or removed.

As I see it this thread is just for giggles and therefore quite OK so far. Mods are watching, as they always are.

As for customers.... how many of you have asked a customer where their car's 'locking wheel nut key' is kept only to be met by a blank face?...and yes i've met a few who keep them at home!

The lack of knowledge amongst the general public is really quite staggering. I did some carpentry and decorating work recently at the house of a professional property developer, builds blocks of flats etc.. Towards the end of the job he offered me 1/2 a days wages to give him a crash course in how to use a cordless drill, he had never handled a drill of any sort and wanted to learn how to drill holes. He'd never learned about friction at school either but the hot drill bit that burnt his hand when he touched it certainly did.
In the 80's, selling new VW's, a customer, who had taken delivery of his new Golf recently, came in one day. In conversation it transpired that whereas his cassette player was working, the radio just produced static. We went out to the car and he gave me the keys, as the retractable aerial was down I pulled it up and all was working fine.
Do I have to do that every time I want to listen to the radio? He said.

Watching university challenge always amuses me, first of all the subjects many of them are studying which I can't really see a practical application for in real life, then the lack of knowledge on anything useful. I'm not knocking them, their knowledge of many subjects is amazing but a bet a lot of them couldn't change a light bulb. People used to go the college/university to learn how to make a good living, they seem to go for fun now.

Maybe I'm just old and crotchety.

For those sorts that's quite normal. It's almost like their entire brain is filled with their specialist subject leaving no room for anything else including basic survival and social skills.

I've met a good few in my lifetime. Interesting people to say the least...

The number of 306's I saw with what I can only describe as what looked like "strawberry milkshake" in the power steering reservoir was quite high. Some denied filling it too, saying it was like that, if it was their partner I don't know.

I suspect this was part of the reason on the 307 they 'hid' it a bit further down in the inner wing.

A guy I worked with had two daughters. The eldest had a degree in chemistry and one in pharmacy, very highly paid pharmaceutical researcher.
Her younger sister barley managed GCSEs and left school early.
Was made manager of a prestigious department store after 18 months of working there.

Eldest daughter had her car, tax, insurance and fuel paid for by the parents, youngest daughter paid her own way in everything.

Parents went on holiday for a few days, came back to find there had been a fire in the kitchen and everything was blackened and stinking of smoke.
Eldest daughter had tried to make gravy in the electric kettle
