Sidelight bulb C5 MK11

Unread post by micky707 »

Anyone got an easy answer for replacing the offside sidelight bulb? Ive taken cover off, the LDS tank is in the way as well, but the hole is so small i can only just touch the back of the wiring let alone the bulb. Also is it worth changing both to Led's :?:

the quickest and easiest way is drop the front bumper of so you can remove the head lamp,

the other thing to be aware of on these is the holder is plastic and the bulb is a cap less halogen,
so it produces a far bit of heat and can melt the holders

In spite of guys saying there's no need to remove the bumper, I've never been able to get anywhere near the bulbs, never mind changing them. After having had the bumper off twice in as many years, I changed to LEDs three years ago. No more problems.

The Phase 2 X7 can be done without removing the bumper. Your picture shows a phase 1 facelift. I think that might be where the confusion lies.
There are only 2 phases of the C5 . What most people call the Mk 2 is a Phase 1 facelift according to Citroen. Not being pedantic, but for those of us with the phase two, it gets confusing as there isn't a phase (Mk) 3.

Yes it is a phase 1 face lift, presumably still need to get the bumper dropped. May have to get this done by an indy, cant be doing with all that hassle.

Someone got a quote for the job at a garage and it was quite steep. I agree about the hassle if you can afford to get it done. Oh for the days when you could open the bonnet, pull of the headlamp back, and get at all the bulbs. ( and when the bulbs cost a couple of quid.)

The (relatively) simple way is to slip a short length of well-fitting rubber tubing over the lamp and holder, rather like you would with deep set spark plugs.
Fit LED replacements though, as suggested, to save any future hassle.

Facelift models use side light bulbs 433C. If your looking for LEDs use something like these:

i didnt realise the C5 with the side light across the top of the head lamp was just a face lift, but stand corrected

That's true.
When I phoned Citroen to arrange my last service, they asked for my regd. number, then said, "OK, it's a phase two car" I questioned them as I wasn't sure they were right. I had a C5 in 2001 and I knew there had been a different model between that one and the new shape I have now. They said that the 2004 to 2007 car was still phase 1, but with a major facelift. They assured me that there wasn't a third phase of the C5.
I suppose they were right in the fact that there are only two phases, but wrong in the fact that the new shape is a phase two, as it seems that they have given up on phases, and designated the new shape as the X7.
So now, the "facelift" car is a phase two, and the X7 (2008>)isn't a phase at all, unless its a phase two facelift!!. Nah, it couldn't be, as it's a different platform isn't it, and a totally different shell?
I have to go and lay down now, I feel a headache coming on.
:gt: :-? :help2: :offtopic:

Hope I never have to change a sidelight bulb.
Rick.

I have changed that bulb which is on top of the headlight. Thanks to citronut for the description. Otherwise I didn't know that it's called the sidelight.

The type of the bulb is H6W or BAX9S. Check pics by Google search.
Attn. don't buy by mistake the BA9S bulbs (wrong type).
2 pins location/angle is difference between two types.

After removing the dust cover I checked how it's connected by a mirror. Extremely narrow and you have work with two fingers only :? Remove the two black wires from a "C-shaped" hook and pull gently out.
