2.5 XM intercooler bypassed...

Unread post by lankytim »

Hi all,

I have heard that the 2.5 XM has a water-to-air intercooler that uses engine coolant to cool the air charge entering the engine and that they are often bypassed due to leaks.

How easy would it be to fit a normal air to air intercooler behind the front bumper in place of the coolant fed example? I have read that it's difficult to do but there seems to be enough room to do it, plus it should be more reliable than the Citroen original set up.

Any opinions on this?

Have a look on club xm Tim as i've been thinking about this and there is no easy answer :(
Easiest suggestion so far is to cross connect the water in-out pipes from it, drain them from the charge cooler and cap them. Then have some form of duct push cold air over the CC so it at least cools a little bit :)

Theres not enough room orelse Citroen would of done it in the first place like the 2.1

Theres a second radiator infront of the larger one, which is needed ovbiously for what ever reason. However, other then that, you would have to engineer your own duct pipes, as the 2.5 inlet is to the side of the engine rather then in the centre like the 2.1 so there wont be any direct placment pipes to put in. Then theres little room to pass the front of the HP Pump/Altinator depending on the setup. So it IS really no go direction I think
