advice for brother. C4 grand picass

hi all.. on behalf of brother.. whom is thinking of entering the Citroen / PSA fold for the first time

He wants a C4 grand Picasso... suggested to him that the 150 HP, 2.0 Hdi 6 speed is the one to go for..


he mentioned 1.6 hdi and also petrol engines.. but I am impressed with my 2.0 even in 8 valve and 110HP form.

thoughts please?

Avoid the Auto box versions of any kind. The 2.0 diesel is the best, 1.6 diesels are not very long lasting generally.
Avoid air rear suspension on the exclusives, but it can be changed for springs.

I assume you are thinking second hand. There is a new grand p due out soon, so I guess current shape one will drop in price. I think the new 5 seat one is around already.

I had a good look at a few, ended up with C5 tourer though as didn't Really need the 7 seats. I noticed a few with scruffy interiors, I guess occupied by large scruffy families. They come with no spare wheel as standard, and the air suspension ones have no space for a spare even if you bought one.

All in all though, impressed and still wonder if I would have been better with the Picasso.

I am troubled by the DPF warnings I get on the C5 if I have a couple of weeks round town, and if I was doing mainly short trips I think a modestly powered petrol might be a better option. The headline mpg is not as good but fuel is a a few p per litre less and high milers might be cheaper to look after.

Cant agree more with Lightys comments..

Go for the PSA DW 2.0 16v engine.. Avoid the 1.6 like the plage...

Rear air bags on the rear suspension about 300 each to change when they go wrong and they do..

Most are autos, which are ok, but there a common issue with the Electro Solinoids that do the gear changing..

Getting an auto though DOES give you a nice big "Fridge" in the middle of the dash (A large air conditiond glove box)

The manual doesnt though... yes a small issue though..

Generally good motors just the auto box and rear air bags (ALL Grand Picassos I think) not sure about bottom spec ones though

Well in the uk adam.. parts availability.. none.. people who work on them other the specialist.. none .. rust in the uk.. makes them end up as none .. and in the uk its age wars. Were obsessed with having cars no older then 10 years or older..

Thats rather odd for a honda...

Oddity Relatives in the USA had one when we visited and I was very impressed. I had never seen, and still haven't seen a (factory fitted) button in a car which opens your garage door.

Alas, Honda never sold the Odyssey in the UK, so we would have to import a Japanese one, then import any parts when it goes wrong. Same with the Mazda Bongo, a mate has one (import) and it's great.

We seem to have less choice of decent MPV's than in other countries.

So what is the problematic box in these GP.s? Aisin Jatco or ZF? The airbag suspension sounds more expensive than old Range Rover. Air suspension is great for towing and comfort mind.

I beleve its not the box itself as its almost a manual box .. when i select reverse you can hear it click like you do it in a manual.

im led to beleve its the electro magnetic solinoid arms that do the automatic gear changes for you that are an issue

seems cheap!
