as Steve says Santender send you a one time code via a txt message,if you try to make a payment to someone for the first time,
then you just enter that code in the box,

The HSBC one can be a PITA from what I've seen of people using it.

Steve, don't forget to use cotton based paper, not wood pulp based.

I used an Irish Linen tablecloth and cut it with pinking shears to give a nice design to the edges.

My youngest has a code generator from Barclays (I think) and seems to have a fair amount of frustration with it.
