No but I would be inclined to try a different virus scanner Malcolm. See if that will see and remove the thing that's causing pain.

Sadly I can't suggest or recommend one. I sure one of our resident Windows people will very soon...

Disappointingly, there is a Linux trojan now extant.
Hand Of Thief

There is an option of course. Apart from the usual safe surfing guidelines, boot Linux with a live CD, do your online banking and leave.
No virus or trojan can infect a live CD and can't access your hard drive to infect that either.

we do have Malwarebytes and CCleaner on my complicator, but for incoming threats i find AVG usually grabs them,

It's allegedly kosher software but I'm with you in not liking a situation where you can't opt out.

Is it worth changing banks?

Most of them do it now Adam.
I'm with Santander and they have one. Fortunately it doesn't run under Linux :)
My ISP (BT) also nags me to install their AV. Again, not Linux compatible :)

Yes, I hear quite a few complaints about Santander but have never had a problem with them and they have been very helpful when I have made a mess of things.
I like their method of sending a one - time only code number to my mobile to facilitate certain transactions.

Actually started with the National Girobank when the bank I was using (The People's Bank) shut up shop.
That morphed into Alliance and Leicester then Santander.

I need to go to a branch and change some cash* :(
Came home from work on Friday shattered and ill, chucked my clothes in the washer and went to bed.
Saturday morning, hanging the washing up discovered my walled still in my trousers :( :(

The notes were all stained from the leather dye that had leeched out. Looked like monopoly money.
Washed it again - no improvement.
Washed it in white vinegar - slight improvement.
Drowned it in weak bleach - no change.
Repeated in Hydrogen Peroxide - very slight improvement.
Put it back in the washing machine on a 60° Heavy Stain cycle - came out as it went in :(
Can't see anyone accepting this money as it is now.

*except last time I tried it took me three hours to recover from the cleaning materials/air freshener they were using.

Steve, there's a law against laundering money..

I bank with the horse and the forum account is with them too. Their Internet banking two-step authentication for personal accounts is by user ID and password and then a selection of letters from a drop-down from a memorable word. For their business accounts the second step authentication is via one of those keypads that generate a one-time passcode.

Both should be secure against form grab malware but am I right in thinking if there is enough screengrabs the nasty person operating the malware will be able to piece together the memorable world. The one-time passcode has to be a much better idea and will frustrate even the best hacker?

If so then why don't all on-line banking use them. They must cost only pennies to produce and could potentially save the banks millions in fraud costs.

I see the great majority of these nasty malware kits (as well as most spam) hail from Russia and other well-known localities. Is there not justification in disconnecting these countries from the Internet at large until they learn how to properly conduct themselves on-line?
