The most CCA (cold cranking amps) and Ah you can fit in the space available!!

i was always told the battery has to match the alternator output/requirements,

to find out which model/size you should have in your car, talk to your local motor factors, they will give you the battery model No.,

these are just off the top of my head and not necessarily the one for your car, but the likes of 069 or 063,once you are armed with this reference you can then look for a heavy duty version of that,

There is a match between battery capacity and alternator rated output as if you have a huge battery and a small alternator you may end with your "large" battery partially discharged which is worse than small fully charged battery.

I'm not sure how critical this "match" is with more modern ie later plexed cars where the BSi controls the charging output (not a sensible idea personally) but it does seem to usually work well.

Having said that most manufacturers seem (at least to me) to specify a slightly smaller than I'd prefer replacement in terms of CCA / Ah.

General consensus with petrol engines was to fit the diesel battery but Pete has a HDi already so I guess a large capacity one will suffice. HDi's usually have quite a high output alternator anyway and need a decent cranking speed.

If inclined while the battery is out remove and examine the earth leads especially the bolts at the body and transmission and give them a wirebrusing if needed.

Some battery firms list the weight of the battery, the more Lbs per £ the better, the highest capacity you can fit in there is best for a diesel.

Put your reg into Euro Car Parts. I think its 027 for the 2L diesel 306.

And there's a guide here:

There's also The Battery Guys who have had a few positive mentions on the forum.
Haven't dealt with them personally though.
