Re: My S1 Activa
New ram bush fitted, i'm not joking when i say the old one fell out.
Upon moving the activa i noticed a trail of water, i've never been so happy to see coolant drip (well gush) from the bottom of a car. I thought, excellent, i have a heap of spare hoses for a TCT engine this will take me 10 mins. i got under the car to see which hose was leaking and my jubilation was turned to horror. The water was pouring from the air con drain. So that must mean the heater matrix is still toast. when i say pouring i do mean pouring, a steady stream. bugger

Re: My S1 Activa
sounds like a massive failure of the matrix then, doing the same job twice is never fun, especialy on the same car, i feel for you Chris.

Re: My S1 Activa
repeat of page 2 here.
the heater matrix has now been replaced (dash is pretty much back together) the passengers seat and carpet are out due to them being like a swimming pool.
A lot of the parts that need to come off for a clutch replacement have come off. Waiting for another free day to finish it off, 2013 is looking to be the earliest time.
Jim, cue piccies

Re: My S1 Activa
It certainly was an epic fail...
The extent of the leak being tested by filling the matrix with a watering can...
The responsible hole in one of the U tubes...
It was big and comparison with the new one suggests the old one was a tad longer in the U tubes than the new one. We believe the U tube may have fretted against the bottom of the heater box and holed itself...
As Chris said, the carpet was a bit soggy on the passenger side so we had it out. Liam rigged up a drying rail in the workshop consisting of a length of wood resting on a shelf with the other end supported by an old cambelt which in turn was supported by a broom in the roof
It works and to prove it does...
It does the job!
All in all a very enjoyable day, the bacon rolls were especially enjoyed

Re: My S1 Activa
Oh, i'm a bad person. Long time no update to the thread...
The dash is back together now and has been for about 3-4 months.
It has a new clutch in and is much lighter underfoot than before. There is a way of changing the clutch without removing the box from the car but it is sodding hard and tight, although easier than dropping the box down. You basically slide it back and off to the side and with very small hands undo the clutch and pull it out. We're talking a few mm to spare here.
The exhaust has a leak at the backbox join so will need looking at.
I can't remember the condition of the tyres but i know at least 2 are perished.
The car hasn't been on the road now for over a year, I feel bad for it.
I shall be taking a look at the exhaust and seeing if I can get the tyres sorted and then maybe, MOT.

Re: My S1 Activa
Mini update here.
Exhaust found to be sh*gged but changed for a new one.
Both Front tyres dead, now swapped.
In short, she's ready for her MOT.

Re: My S1 Activa
You've had them crossed a long time!
The Activa passed it's MOT this afternoon. went straight through. I'm very happy.
God the drive back was good.
Everyone should have an activa

Re: My S1 Activa
The last 200 miles yield a result of 32.1mpg.
The car sat in traffic for 2 hours with that as well. So far, she's not missed a beat.
I expect normal service to be resumed soon
