Women and giant 4 x 4 $£%%^&£

There I was, minding my own business toddling through the village when a woman in a bleeding great Range Rover Overfinch came piling down the centre of the road (no, thyere was nothing parked either side) with no regard for anyone, and a complete lack of ability or knowledge of the width of her Chelsea tractor. (I could have said she was a complete arse who couldn't drive)
I had to take avoiding action to save my offside from being demolished, and hit a corner kerb in getting out of the way. The ignorant cow disappeared into the distance without even slowing down. The result is a badly grazed alloy and a chip out of my tyre. (see pic)
I know it isn't illegal as I have been advised that the gouge is 3 mm deep and noit very biug (that's my loittle finger in the pic). Thing is, I'm off back North on Monday on a 550 mile journey and will probably be doing motorway speeds for a lot of the way and I will have it at the back of my mind that the tyre is damaged. Any thoughts, bearing in mind that even a cheapo budget jobbie will set me back well over £100 and a decent tyre could be around £200, and I'm not loaded.

Yep, been 30+ most of the time I've been in Surrey. Only a cool 26 back in Aberdeen so I might get some sleep!. Leaving Monday around lunchtime and will stop in Carlisle as SWMBO doesn't like my driving for more than 5 hours or so at a time. Bed and breakfast in a hotel and probably a meal at the "Bazar" restaurant in Carlisle as they do a very good selection of curry's. There's also an all you can eat chinese buffet nearby, so windows open on the second leg to Aberdeenshire on Tuesday.
Thanks for the heads up on the tyre damage, I had something similar on my Rover 75 and the guy at an independent tyre place said it was OK. Nice to know that someone else has had the same damage though.

that's really bad news - bloody women drivers (not all are bad though). Friend of mine reckons women aren't so good at distance/positioning of vehicle (although the white lines should help!) .

I'm driving my Xantia with similar nick in sidewall, which tyre specialist pronounced as OK as it hasn't exposed the reinforcement. I have it on the rear nearside, just in case it does suddenly deflate rapidly.

Sweeping generalisation on women drivers. Of course there are bad ones but some of the best drivers I have encountered have been and generally still are women.

There is a 23 year old lives up the road from me, has a motorbike, passed her test two days after her birthday, and a Lotus, again passed her test a couple of days after her birthday.

A regular Sabine Schmitz except for her size - barely 5', which helps with the (tricked out) Lotus.

Does lots of track days, including the Nürburgring.

The tyre damaged looks fine for further use, just keep an eye on it incase it develops a golf ball like bulge there. I bet it won't though.

Not you specifically, just the general attitude that women are worse drivers than men.

I have a friend with a motability car who has a bigger bit than that on her tyre after hitting a kerb. Motsbility told her to take it to kwikfit wko told her it is safe, superglue it back on and forget it, thats all we do. I was expecting her to come out woth 4 tyres, new exhaust,,,,,,,,,,,etc!

Round here it's the retired farmers in their Renault 4s you have to watch out for. Tiny little old men that can't see over the steering wheel, had a few brandys, weaving all over the road. Plus if you do go off road avoiding them it's quite a drop down the mountain!

It's generally farm types I have to avoid out here in south Berkshire.

Most of the other bad driving I see is almost always men. Sure, I see some women "dithering" changing lanes or at junctions, but I never seen them overtaking like tw@ts, overtaking cyclists on blind bends, aggressively chopping me at roundabouts and so on.

From what was written, she was coming down the centre line so a bit difficult to do anything other than get out of the way unless you're suggesting qprdude should have sat there and risked being clipped by her?

I'm suggesting that if you see a car coming down the centre of the road some distance away you slow down, and possibly stop well in advance so they spot you and you don't have to take avoiding action. I do it daily round here on the lanes where it's just possible to get two cars past and everyone drives down the middle of the road.
