Proper support for Gmail labels, e.g. if you have emails marked in two labels, and read one, it won't stay unread in the other label.

Has the same stacked email message thread view that Gmail does, and includes the emails you've sent in that too.

Support Gmail search terms (e.g. 'from: x', 'subject: y', etc)

I realise there are some addons for Thunderbird that do add this functionality, however, when I did try them, they were either discontinued and/or weren't as polished as they are in Postbox. For the $9.95 cost me at the time, it was worth it :) There are probably other things that I use unknowingly in Postbox that I would miss if I tried switching to Thunderbird again.

Never had a problem with Thunderbird. I use it on two workstations both talking to a Courier IMAP server behind Postfix. Mail read in one appears read in the other as expected as it does in my implementation of Squirrelmail talkingh to the same IMAP server. In fact mail read first in Squirrelmail shows as read in the Thunderbirds too..

I like Thunderbired a lot bar its dubious tagging of what it thinks is spam. It thinks most (but not all) of what comes from the FCF is spam..

As with any spam filtering, the only way for it to "get it right" is to be trained. Or just turn it off. Once it gets the hang of your mail and your preferences, it's bob-on.

I can see where Ben's coming from on the labels vs folders - gmail's web functionality just works to a different metaphor to, well, everybody else. The Android gmail is, strangely, consistent with web gmail. I'm not saying it's better or worse, just... different. Personally, I prefer folders. But if labels float your boat, then great. <grin>

Hi Jim, it's not a multi-client issue :) just the way Gmail files things into labels rather than folders. And as such you can have emails with multiple labels... IMAP sees these labels as separate folders with different (duplicate) items in, even though on Gmail's end it is just a single email. PostBox supports Gmail's IMAP extensions for handling the labels.

:D my usage of labels is fairly light compared to my Boss', pretty sure he has at least 2 labels for every message he receives :lol: I think at most mine will reach 3 for a certain few rare emails :) Rest will have 1 or 2.

Ahh, sorry Ben, got the wrong end of the stick there :roll: I don't use Gmail and only use folders....

I do my own mail entirely although I do route outgoing mail via my ISP's SMTP server. I've got a hotmail (I believe they call it Outlook now) account but rarely use it and only so I have a login for Farcebook (which I very rarely use) and the XM-L Mailing List...

As a quick and dirty workaround I deleted all the filters so all mail lands in the inbox and can be read and sorted manually.
I might get it picked up by one of the Gmaill accounts or the other Yahoo account that I only use in Chromium.
There was a fix for it that I did a couple of days ago. It is the Webapp for Ymail that causes the bug. Uninstalling the Webapp fixes it with no discernible degradation to the mail handling.

I liked this bit:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Windows" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

"Windows 95/98, (n): 32 bit extension and a graphical shell for a 16 bit patch to an 8 bit operating system originally coded for a 4 bit microprossessor, written by a 2 bit company that can't stand 1 bit of competition. "
People say that if you play Microsoft CD's backwards, you hear satanic things, but that's nothing, because if you play them forwards, they install Windows.

I'm ashamed to say that I fairly consistently mispronounce it and should know better as Linus is a Swedish-speaking Finn.
