I was at a computer fair in Bracknell today. A 32GB Kingston class 10 SDHC memory card cost me £20. My camera will be pleased!

If it can use a USB dongle I just bought one from Amazon, Sandisc (only buy Sandisc ones now) 32Gig for fifteen quid. Tiny and very fast.

You can run it off a USB stick, but you still need a SD card to bootmyglaren wrote:If it can use a USB dongle I just bought one from Amazon, Sandisc (only buy Sandisc ones now) 32Gig for fifteen quid. Tiny and very fast.

Re: Raspberry Pi anyone?
You wouldn't need much of a SD card for the boot I'd imagine.
I've just finished the next step in the climate control program using a red and green LED as guides for heating and cooling.
For this step I've defined what the desired temperature (dt) is.
If the temperature is more than 5C above the desired temperature then both LEDs are on to indicate super cooling (a/c on, fan on full blast, vents to recirculate and face)
If the temperature is more than 1C above dt then the green LED is on to indicate cooling (a/c on, fan on 3/4, vents to recirculate and face)
If the temperature is between 1C above and 1C below dt, then the LEDs are off indicating a/c would be off.
If the temperature is more than 1C below dt, the red LED comes on to indicate heating.
The next step is to make dt variable via button input, then it's displaying it on the LCD.

You really need to join the Raspberry Pi community on Google+ Jim, there's been some excellent tutorials on gpio.

Re: Raspberry Pi anyone?
I think we've cracked the shutdown/powerdown issue.
An astable 555 will be powered from the accessory feed producing a constant square wave signal. This will constantly trigger a monostable 555 getting it's power from a 12V feed, and the constant triggering will keep a relay closed which feeds 12V to the Pi.
When the ignition is off, the astable loses power and stops signalling the monostable 555, which then runs for it's 30 second single trigger time then cuts off power to the relay which cuts off power to the Pi.
When the ignition is turned on the astable starts signalling the monostable which in turn closes the relay and turns on the Pi.
