Radiator Cooling Fan Not Working

Unread post by mark2256 »

Hi All

The radiator fan on my 2003 406 2.2hdi stopped working about 3 months ago. I have put my Peugeot Planet on and came back with a error for the fan speed inconsistent. On checking the fan motor I found it had seized up. I have now found a replacement fan and fitted it. I have check the fan unit works using the planet software fan speed test. I must point out that this car uses the chopper circuit and not relays. I have also tried a new water temperature sensor but to no avail.

Has anyone had any experience with this type of fan circuit please.

i worked on a 306 about a year ago could not get the rad fans working,
took it up to the Auto sparks i use and he discovered a broken thick earth wire below the radiator,

he used a digital test probe to check the wiring around the fan

have you check the fan terminals with a multi meter???

Hi citronut

Thank you for the reply. Using the Planet software I can do a fan actuation test and the fan runs fine, it also does not show any fault codes.

It was the bitron sensor you changed yes ?

You've done about all there is, if its got a bitron control unit (not sure if the BSi handles it on later models or not actually) that may well be the next step unfortunately, especially as with Planet it 'appears' to be OK which sort of rules out wiring concerns in most cases.

Hi Spider

Thank you for the reply. The problem I had was the fan would not run at low speed. On checking the loom I found that water had corroded one of the wires for the low speed fan circuit. having now replaced this wire the fan now runs fine at low speed and cuts in at about 92 degrees C. So problem solved.

Tomorrow I will start on sorting another problem a sticky EGR valve.
