To be honest I was going to use it as a spares donor for mine, but you never know... I suspect this particular Xantia has probably been claimed by now however.

I think you mean "driven gently they are moderately economical" Jim. They certainly can't be described as "very economical".

I can't imagine the average driver getting more than mid twenties mpg out of one. Most people don't buy a 200bhp car to potter gently around in.

I got 32 out of the S1 V6 a few times but it was tedious. I barely touched the loud pedal.

I went from HDi to V6 it wasn't as horrendous as you might think. My commute is 42 miles a day

Considering they’re a full 3 litre with an (albeit sophisticated) autobox I'd say they were very economical for what they are...

I'd wager that my V6 and daughter's 207 with the little underpowered 1.4 engine is not much different overall.. The difference is that she has to thrash the balls off the Pug to make progress whereas the V6 barely comes off idle for the same desired rate of progress...

And in normal driving there is no need to press the loud pedal very far down Mike. That's quite normal... It has adequate power...

On Fuel economy both my S1 and S2 got between 29 & 32 average MPG with normal driving.

My wife is considering what she wants to do as no-one wants to put it back on the road. She needs to arrange time off work too.

On a sideline how far can one be towed with all 4 wheels on the ground?
Would it be better in nuetral with the engine running for example or just finding a towing dolly does anyone know?

Citroen recommend not to tow the 4HP20 with the engine not running due to lack of lubrication of the gearbox with the oil pump not running, but in an emergency the figure is something like no more than 30 miles travelled maximum at no more than 50mph, so not suitable for long distance hauling unless the engine was idling... (also remember the suspension would go down eventually without the engine running and wouldn't maintain a safe operating height)

So if i use a tow bar i can have someone sat in it steering and braking and so on if the engine is running at say 60mph from Kilmarnock down to Warrington?!?

That would make things much easier and doable on a single tank in the C5

I've put some feelers out to see how much they are to rent as i would only need one for 24hrs but have nowhere to really store one either so that could be the fun part!

If it has no road tax, MOT, or insurance, then legally, you can't tow it anywhere at all with any wheels on the ground.

If it has any MOT left at all, I'll rescue it myself. I've no towball to tow a trailer with..

If its booked in for an MOT it should be legal surely? As that way i would get the train up and insure it for the day to bring it back. Also to apply repairs as well. i think the insurance and MOT bit are easy to adhere to and without the MOT you can get tax so as long as its only a trip to get an MOT or repair it should be ok
