kangoo, no back pressure, smoke, wont rev

just had a m8 on thephone he say his kangoo has developed terrible back pressure,lots of smoke and won't rev past 2500 rpm, are all these likely to be related and a possible easy fix?

he lives about 30 miles away so i cant just pop out and check something.

Where's the back pressure? Do you know if he's checked the basics such as filters and such?

We had a similar problem on my son's 306 with the DW engine. It would hardly run at all above tickover with backpressure and smoke all over the place coming from everywhere. The cat had become completely blocked! Took it to a diesel only garage not far from here (very slowly!) and he diagnosed it. He ground the weld off the joint on the cat, removed the innards and welded the cat back together again. Result power instantly restored and passed two or three mot's like that before he sold it.
