Re: Spotted Xantias! (and other French stuff)
What's all that blue stuff in the sky?
That's a nice tidy little ZX, I like the colour.
I discovered mine wasn't the only Xantia in the car park at work, there was a Y reg HDi in white.
No camera of course though.

Saw (from what I could see) a rather well looked after ZX this morning, it was waiting to pull out of the roundabout I was going across. So no pic/reg opportunity

Spotted on Monday morning on the A322 between Bracknell and the M3, a very tidy bright orange GS Club, reg HOF 751N. Got a photo, but I still have to get an on-line picture account set up.

I saw a dark metalic purple Xantia on the way home today. Looked nice, is it an original colour?

Spotted a green XM estate going up the A38 this evening. An R-reg SX it was.
First I've seen in the wild I think.

Yes, very much an endangered species now, mainly surviving in captivity...Chlorate wrote:Spotted a green XM estate going up the A38 this evening. An R-reg SX it was.

I have not seen one in the wild for months now and believe me, I keep my eyes open...

Re: Spotted Xantias! (and other French stuff)
Popped along today to the Keys Classic Car, Bike and Automobilia Auction held in Aylsham, deepest Norfolk. A few days ago whilst having a quick look through the catalogue online (link here) I was quite taken aback when I saw that there was a Visa as the last lot in! I was going anyway so promised Mike a bit more info and pictures for on here and in the column, too.
The auction title for it was quite interesting (1981 CITROEN VISA SUPER E VLT230X - WITH V5 FOR RESTORATION (COMPLETE WITH VERDIGRIS AND BRAMBLES!) so was looking forward to having a look at it, and possibly even coming away with it if it was in savable condition... Here's the auction's photo:
Here's a few photos that I took today:
Well... As you can see in the pictures it has certainly seen better days, however a shame as it had only covered 31,000 Miles! I don't think it has been run in many a year, however there was a can of petrol and jump leads in the boot, so perhaps someone might have given it a go. The underbonnet was quite a site, with the huge cobwebs and remnants of a tree - I can only imagine where they had pulled it out from. Mike told me that it was a new Super E to the CCC and not one that was known, so once again goes to prove that we just don't know what's out there and squirreled away.
Having a good look over it, it didn't take long to determine that it's days were numbered... The sills have quite a lot of rot, as did the rear subframe mounts, rear arches and the corners of the boot floor. Amazingly, the bulkhead didn't appear too bad however no doubt it was hiding more horrors if you was to strip it down! Combining the unknown condition of the mechanicals, the huge amount of work that would need to be carried out, and that unfortunately the Super E isn't a hugely desirable model I decided against going for it! If it was a GTi, however, then things might have been different...!
Regarding the auction, it fetched the princely sum of £65 plus 7.5% on top, so around £70 out of the door... Unfortunately, I suspect that it's probably gone straight to the weighbridge...

I've got to say Franklin, that Visa would have been a bit of a challenge...

As tempting as it was for £65 Jim, that'd be where the spending started!
Also the trouble is that a minter fetched around £1500 on eBay not long ago, unfortunately not worth restoring it...

Re: Spotted Xantias! (and other French stuff)
Indeed, definitely one best left to others... You would far exceed £1500 in getting it sorted.. Had the interior been Ok then perhaps it might have been worth a punt but like it was, a certain no - that interior alone would cost a packet to sort out...Citroening wrote:As tempting as it was for £65 Jim, that'd be where the spending started!

Re: Spotted Xantias! (and other French stuff)
Yep, it'd be around £400 for a seat trim...
Then there's the welding, fabrication, mechanics...
In this case, the weighbridge was the best answer unfortunately...!

Poor little Visa, that is in a sad state! Shame for it to have had so little use and be scrapped.

That is no ordinary C6, its one of the very very few (10 UK ones maybe?) 3.0HDi V6 diesels.

Re: Spotted Xantias! (and other French stuff)
a beast indeed, yes it's a 3.0HDi Ithink the current tally for these is around 15 as Citroen UK had some that were still being used last year by the press department, one of those was silver (seen at ICCCR) but it had a private plate on it.
Actually on the subject of spotting, I've had a bit of a feast today, a C6 heading north on the M6, a peugeot 205 cabriolet in Leyland and a Renault Vel Satis on the back of an AA recovery truck, also on the M6
