1994 Xantia 1.9d MPG

Unread post by mirafioriman »

Made a trip to Birmingham and back Sun/Mon. Filled up, did about 15 miles of town driving then set off. Did 450 miles in two journeys with an overnight stop in between. Got back and filled up. It took 34 litres to refill the tank, so by my calculations:

34 litres = 7.5 gallons

450 miles divided by 7.5 gallons = 60 MPG

Not bad for a 19 year old n/a diesel Xantia in my opinion :)
Former Proud owner of a 1994 Citroen Xantia 1.9d and BX 19RD

Now driving an Alfa 159 but god I miss the Xantia!

That's bloody excellent :-D

The old NA XUD9 really is an excellent economy engine. I used to have a 405 with the same engine and used to average almost 55mpg just going to work and back..

It's partly the excellent engine and partly the excellent Lucas pump...

The XUD7 in the 205D could do even greater feats of economy...

That's good but one car, if you can call it a car, was the phenomenal 1990 Vauxhall Nova 1.2 4 speed. An ex of mine has one and I could easily achieve 68mpg from a petrol!!!

The 5 speed 1.4 book figure was 72mpg from memory and the diesel was 78.4mpg from memory. The problem was finding one in decent condition and I'm talking about back in 2000.

I'm sure I used to get about 55-60 from my old 205 DTurbo.

The problem was trying to keep to sensible speeds in it and gently acceleration. Very difficult with something so potent.

Spider will no doubt confirm that.

Easy when you have to push it for most of any journey you undertake in it. Good job it had a heated rear window - kept your hands warm when pushing it :)

So will I :-D Those things went like a scalded cat on a hot tin roof... I had one for a while. It was considerably quicker than my 205GTi...
