307 strut top access

Unread post by tmead »

I've just had a spring break, and need to whip the strut out. Anyone know how to access the top of the strut ? I can't see the strut top with a quick look, so maybe I need to start removing other stuff ?

I'm planning to change the springs and shocks. Is it worth spending another 50 quid to sort the top bearings ?

You will need to remove the wiper scuttle panel to get the top strut fixings off. Personally I would just change the strut top bearings at about £12 each, the rubber mounts rarely fail.
Well worth changing the Anti roll bar links, they are very hard to get off without damaging.
Make sure you hold the shocker piston if air gunning off, they unscrew internally and fall apart very easily .

Thanks Lighty ! I've changed out the off side, and will sort the n/s soon. The arb links were changed a couple of months ago, and thankfully the nut came undone. Fastenings holding the strut onto the hub were bloody tight, and 18mm - had to borrow a ring spanner from work, as only the combination sets I have only have 17 and 19, and I didn't have a 1/2 drive deep socket. Suppose it was just fortunate that the spring failed in the carpark there really !

I changed the bearings - and I'm glad I prepared to do that. The old bearings feel really gritty.

Anything to do with the increase in number of potholes do you reckon ?

We had a 207 , that had both replaced in October 2012, one of the new ones broke, so we just changed the failed one
