Mystery Object in S2 TD 1.9 Xantia Engine Bay!

Unread post by ecohouse1 »

Was checking out the exhaust down pipe which I am removing at the weekend to replace with a straight through pipe instead of the catalyst. Its holed ahead of the catalyst.

Noticed an assembly up below the intake manifold which is about the size & similar shape to a thermostat behind the cylinder head. Right side of the block looking at the engine from the headlights. Has a black cap just popping up to the height of the rocker cover. Can't remember seeing one of these on my BX TZD or TGD?

Anyone know what this is - just curious!

Cheers

As far as I'm aware, the EGR valve was introduced in '96/'97.

97 I think for the XUD series as the very first 406's (same engine, Bosch pump semi electronic) N plates did not have them but they pretty soon did late N or P plates usually had them fitted. Similar with 306's some P plate (old shape!) had EGR

My understanding is that EGR + engine ECU was introduced in January 96 (new model year). I believe mine was one of the very very last (built mid-January 96) XUDs without. But I also know that some RHD Xantiae built later in 95 were still sitting somewhere unregistered in mid-96.
