Not the 'one' job things where you make something then dismantle it when finished with a job, the ones where you make something for the future too.
I don't actually have a lot of homemade car tools as the ones below I did not have to hand for the 205TD (and the head with the exh manifold and turbo attached was not fun to put on myself!) so I made these:
XUD head guides, two old head bolts chopped down a bit with a nice wide slot cut into them and some grease on the thread simply to assist with popping the head on due to the factory 'forgetting' to put two dowels into the block for some reason.
Tensioner holder, for when you want to remove the mounting and or the tension roller itself, simple angle iron with two bolts, note they are slightly slotted as I did not accurately measure the gap, however once in they are fine as the tensioner plunger holds them:

Jim's got a "Sh*troen" tool that's used to remove Bosch injectors if memory serves.

And a whole load else.. Too much to mention really. If I need a special tool I just make one there and then and off we go. The beauty of having a lathe...Xac wrote:Jim's got a "Sh*troen" tool that's used to remove Bosch injectors if memory serves.
I also quite happily modify existing tools to do a particular job too...

Re: Home made car tools
i have concocted various home made tools over the years,
dersh (2CV ) king pin tools
a length of rod with half a thick washer welded at one end to remove/re/fit the lower screw in plug,
a choped down A35 push rod to poke up through the king pin to punch out the core/welsh plug at the top of the K/P,
a BX/XANT rear arm bearing pivot bolt modified to drift the K/P out/in
G/CX
an old socket with two slots cut in it to remove/re/fit head lamp retainers
just to mention a few

Re: Home made car tools
Oh I cut down a 24mm (I think it was 24mm) open ended spanner severely, the simple idea to reach to undo stop solenoids on Bosch pumps without having to take the large bracket off. The spanner is very weak as its so thin now but it suffices for loosening the solenoid, well I think I've not tried it.
