berlingo hdi non starter

Post by bertie »

Hi,
New to forum hoping I get some much needed help.
Yesterday the car broke down, 2005 2.0hdi multispace. I have looked over it all morning checking plugs , fuses etc.
The car turns over but will not start. It does not have a lift pump in tank.siemens. the stop light on the dash stays on.
The display isnow showing eco mode.
Any ideas...
Many thanks [-o<

Does it have plenty of fuel in it ? Don't trust the gauge btw. Also is it the correct fuel ?
Did the car cut out when driving or just fail to start ? Don't worry about Eco mode, it's not a fault, the car will come out of Eco mode when you get it started.

Thanks for the reply. The car cut out whilst driving. There is nearly half a tank of fuel, I got under car and gave the car a shake just to check. The car does not buzz for a few seconds when ignition is turned. I dont know whether it should as it has no in tank pump.there was no sign that it was going to stop , just red stop light came on and cut out.

Try the underbonnet fuse panel.

Would a fuel filter cause cut out with no warning and red stop light appear?

No, the panel itself can cark spontaneously. There are a bunch of relays inside it.

Probably a bit out of my depth if the panel is the problem. Would diagnostics show exactly what is wrong?

Sometimes it may show the fuel supply relay as inactive. The panel is plug and play; they are not specific to Berlingi so you can beg or borrow a working one and szee if the car starts. If it looks the same and has the same colour plugs, it will swap.

Went and towed it to local garage today. On the way tried to bump start it and it fired into life. Took it for a 10 mile run and it didnt miss a beat. Any ideas??
Hoping its going to ok now, but still a bit worried it could cut out again.
