Weird but true.

Post by IrfanIbrahim »

Hi, something weird just happened to me just now, turn the key and crank but no go, noticed on the dashboard, only battery lights are on, tried to turn the key from off to ignition few times untill all the lights on the dashboard illuminate and can start the car. What could be the problem?

Thanks.

I agree probably switch itself.

Less likely the main earth leads are loose or one has come off (same effect I had once when I forgot to put one back!)

Ignition switch is ignition barrel or a different thing? :o just replaced the ignition barrel with a new set complete with doors and boot. Where is the main earth lead located so I could do a quick check. Thanks and sorry for asking alot of question.

Ignition switch / barrel essentially the same thing yes, you'll see its wiring on the switch end opposite the keyslot if you take the cowling off.

Main earth, check heavy earth lead(s) from battery, depending on model and what has been done check that you have a decent connection at the battery end and the other end, it should go to both gearbox area (usually) and the shell / body. May be one Y lead, may have a link somewhere, just bascially check they are clean and secure.
