Laguna any good?
Read many articles on the net on the unreliability of the Laguna diesels, is it possible to get a unbiased opinion on sub £1500 cars? If so can you give one?

Re: Laguna any good?
I had the 1600 Laguna a few years back and at the time it seemed a good buy but they suffer with the same as most cheap(ish) newer cars and that is the build quality is poor, and so things fall off that shouldn't wing mirrors can no longer survive taps and ashtrays stop closing etc they are the start of the "disposable car" . i didn't have the diesel so cant comment on the engine but most are reasonably good for 200k miles if looked after. maybe some one who currently has one can comment,
what mileage / age model etc do you have / looking to get

Re: Laguna any good?
I've just had to sell my beloved BMW because I could'nt afford the petrol costs and also the lack of practicality, I hated the feeling of leaving it out of sight as i was fearful someone would scratch it. Now I've taken the plunge and bought a Citroen C5 estate, as you can imagine quite the "U" turn. I don't regret doing it, I now get 50-60mpg, have loads of room for the kids and not particularly worried where I park it. Now the father in law wants to sell his BM and do the same..lol!
In light of this I'm looking at the whole french line up and reconsidering the Laguna for him, would love to here some opinions on the diesel line up

Re: Laguna any good?
The diesel had issues with the turbo , rear suspension bushes split and you get a knocking over bad roads , estate tailgate switches can get waterlogged and the rear wiper spindle can seize up which can actually break the seal on the hatch glass which let's water in and lead to the lock button failure , we've had two laguna 2's and loved them both , the last an estate we owned for 5 1/2 yrs , we now have a laguna 3 175 bhp dci which is an awesome car , find a well looked after one which has had a turbo/6k oil changes and it should prove a good car .

Re: Laguna any good?
also i have just swapped said C5 for a Megan scenic II 1.5 D
the little 1.5 diesel engine is adequate for the car but will return good MPG and provides excellent space,
i believe Renault and Nissan used the engine in a few models so if you don't need as much space there is the Megan 1.5 and the Clio all can be picked up at a good price and same as the Laguna if you get one that has been looked after and had cam belt and water pump changed you should be OK. Also mine cost 1400 so if it gets a car park dint or scratch its not the end of the world and if you do high miles the deprecation per 1000 is very low so cost is good in comparison to the BMW etc.

Re: Laguna any good?
I think laguna diesel is not a reliable car because car engine also not reliable and body quality is very poor so i recommend that do not go for this vehicle.

Re: Laguna any good?
My father had a petrol lacuna for about 8 years.
To be honest he had very few problems until recently, but then again it would be 12 years old now so thats not surprising.
It was an ok car but I found it uninteresting. If going from a to b is your only concern then ok, but it was too much of a boring drive for me and the interior, although adequate, again seemed boring and very basic.

Happy(ish) C8 owner.
