how much do you spnd a week on fuel

Post by jacksun1987 »

Diesel 142.9 at the moment where i am lincolnshire.
I do 40 miles a day to and from work. I spend around 30 pound. I have a 1.9td xantia.
Say if i had a 110 hdi. How much would i save on fuel. Is there a big difference between hdi and the td models
As any one went from td to hdi. Doing the same jureny? Have they noticed any difference

With price at £1.349 atm, it costs me about £105 for 650 miles commute a week! Not in the school holidays though.
After going to the X Rally & seeing all the Xantias, I'm thinking of trying to persuade my wife that I need a diesel Xantia for work (as well as the VTS!)

I do 40 mile return also in a 1.9TD Xantia. Works out a full tank every 2nd week. Average 43 mpg city & rural. Used to run a Merc 190 1.8 on the same run and it got 30-32 so a tank was 380 miles while the Xantia will do 480/500 on not much more literage. Find the Xantia thirstier than the BX TZD which was 48/50 and the TGD BX was 50-60 although it was a slug! Catalyst is looking rusty and looking frowatf to replacing it with a straight pipe as apparently this helps with mpg.

£1 per litre - asda veg oil - goes straight in the tank of a 1.9TD with no mods and pleasant "chippy" exhaust smell

£90-odd in the Xantia, 25% of that again on fuel in the other cars.

I have gone from an XUD Xantia to an HDi. (via a C5 Hdi and a Seat Alhambra tdi)

My 1995 XUD Xantia averaged 47mpg during my ownership.

My 2001 HDi 110hp averages 55mpg, best result so far is 58mpg over a tank, driving very carefully to see what it would do.

Both cars have shared the same route over at least 1 year ( 3 years in XUD and 1 year so far in the HDi) It is a mixture of dual carriage way, little bit of motorway, hilly Cotswolds and long runs at 55mph on reasonably flat ground so a good 'combined cycle' as the brochures would say. I think the higher gearing of the 110hp HDi has a lot to do with my increased mpg, along with being more relaxed at speed.

Similar experience to Andy F 1.9TD Xantia 45mpg average, 110HDi 54mpg based on similar usage. With diesel at 1.40 per litre changing from the 1.9 to the HDi would be the equivalent to the price of diesel dropping to £1.17 per litre. However the 1.9 will run on straight veg oil and the HDi won't. If you can get veg oil for less than £1.17 per litre then the 1.9 wins over an HDi.

Interesting that many people either can't or won't address the originally posed question - which I would have thought crux of the topic!

I now spend under £16 or £32 a week on fuel depending on whether I need 20L or 40L
Most I'll pay is under £48 for 60L
Much cheaper than if I had a hdi
