People driving Moggy's don't munch motorway miles and have all had new floors :-D They are friggin freezing and cramped...........about as much fun as a protest march

5 yrs ago for Xantia......different. There are so many cheap cars around now with a few years, then bin........C5.
If you find a good Xantia OK. if you want a resto project.....great, go for it.

Taffy; Why are you sleeping in car? Are you a Greenpeace leader or Paparazzi?
yeah i know and mines looking worse for wear dents rust but i still look at my car as the underdog....i see ppl driving brand new cars and im not jealous atall!! my car is capable of alot more then most and im proud to drive it even if it was all rust!! ppl slow down on motorway wen they see me and i know why cause they are searching for the comfort which they aint got! yes moggys maybe was a bad example lol but i was just trying to point out old inst bad and its what does it for u that counts...my car needs ALOT of work still ive spent over 3000 on her and she still looks fit for the scrap man but i trust xantias now more then any other car...ive had to drive without aux belt with two wheel bolts with a bodged top hose etc all the combos and it still got me where i needed to go even wen aux belt went i still drove it even wen i had to drive an old one with no clutch pedal from swindon to swansea and my fuel light was on it got me 120 miles on the red! i dont care what pple think of my car cause i feel superior to anyone else even c5s as they got even more coplicated problems!
mines a project for sure but as there are now only round 300 2.0 hdi exclusives regigsered in uk now im in the super leauge as even my mates p reg tranny theres 1.5 million of them lol!!
why do i sleep in my car....
well im a specialist security guard and have been since 2000...i work in fields protecting mobile phone masts solar pannel sites electric pillions etc etc....i spend atleast 16 hrs sat in a feild everyday and weekends i work 24hrs....this is what i mean if anyone has really lived with a xantia its me...i pretty much do live in my car...i drive 100 miles a day at mo might be more soon as new site coming in soon and i never get board of her...
i just wouldnt want anything else i see the xantia as changing the rules of driving many a person will remember going in a xantia and tell u how nice it was a ride but then the bad side is ppl who bought one and diddn appreaciate it and watch it self distruct...theyre the ones that slag them off but actually had a really good car...
paul im always gona say xantia...sorry...but ur knolage of them is so great that changing to another vehicle ur gona have loads of reasearch to do again!! least u know if the xant breaks down wat its is and how to repair it...thats a big thing for me....better the devil u know

theres a reason im here cause i am totally besotted with xantias...
why do ppl slag them off...
cause there stupid lmao go get urself a piece of electric circit board with wheels and have fun!!
enjoy the visits to main dealer for him to plug in his laptop and tell u which of 2000 sensors have gone and pay him 100 quid lol!
this is not aimed at anyone but ppl who think the xantia is s**t...couldnt watch horse raceing to this day without hydro and as for the weather its gettin more extreame every year...no probs mate u turn ur car around and do a 20 mile detour while i put my suspension up and carry on my way!! seriously only vehicle that could match for versitility is a 4x4!!...and then ur talking a tax bill!!
you should be proud pall nearly 300k!! keep her going how many cars are still on road with that milage!! i got 204k now and im looking forward to reaching 300k and beyond...im even gona get a sticker made club 200k!!

Calm down mate, each to their own. No need to call people stupid because they don't have the same opinion as yourself. It's a friendly debate over the choice of car for a member, no need to get personal.

The change has nothing to do with age either...

I've 6 Xm at the farm. . Newest being K reg. . I'd sooner be in one of those but don't want to wear them out.

If i could find a Td BMW E28 5 series I'd die for it. . I'm an OLD car fanatic. . Its just the robbing government and no money but i know none of us can avoid them. But not all of us can afford it either. .

My personal recommendation for you, would be an Alfa 159 in black, or if the budget's too thin a 156.
I do believe he wants something reliable... I know three people who've had manual 159 diesels, two from new, one bought with 50k miles on it.

To say they make an XM look trouble free and reliable doesn't come close. Horrid things, horrid interiors, horrid instrumentation, I've driven 2, supposedly 150bhp diesels and they were the most uninspiring things I have ever driven. I had the V6 Xantia at the time and it was superior in every way despite being 13 years older.

They look nice though.

Think the Alpha diesels (1.9) were the same breed as the ones used in the Saab 9-3, 1.9 TiD, and in them it was a superb unit, especially the 150. Quicker and more frugal than the comparitive Citroen diesel.
That said, I too am of the opinion that they are ugly inside and out, and a bit too much "In your face", which just goes to prove that beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.
Jeremy Clarkson loves them though.

It does need a new clutch now, at 100K miles, as its making a terrible noise.
what is the noise? release bearing or?

John
Yes, it is the release bearing I think. It sounds as if its about to fail, very noisy indeed and the noise can be felt through the pedal. Its not the udual DMF noise and the clutch works fine with no slipping or juddering.

thanks Chris//
what is the usual dmf noise?

reason I ask is my C5 HDi 110 is making quite a grumble at low revs if I am a gear to high.. wondered if I was hearing the end of a dmf or somthing..
car needs to get me to croatia in 2 weeks ;) !
I am quite sure the car didnt make this noise noticeably when I got her in July
