Re: 12v Impact Wrench
I have thought about one of those myself - but that's as far as it got. I saw one in use at a scrapyard and the bloke said it was the best thing he had ever bought. Have a look on the net for 'best buy' or 'compared' or similar. I expect at least one of the car magazines will have tested them.

I have one of these, it's amazing. 3yrs use every day all day, starting to loose power a tiny bit. Will undo crankshaft bolts no problem. Ingersolrand Rand have just brought out a 20 volt one with 1100 ftlb of torque

Looks good, a bit over the top for me though as I only repair my own cars.

Re: 12v Impact Wrench
I did try one a few years ago unknown brand I forget although the tool man brought them to show us so it would not of been a rubbish make. Although it was quite strong it was no way as powerful as my Snap On air gun.
To be fair for home use I'd love one as it would be practical as well as useful and the things it won't undo there's always a breaker bar to initially assist.
I think what I'm saying is its not going to be as strong as a good air gun.

Re: 12v Impact Wrench
My colleague at work has a Snap on one, as I did before, it is nowhere near as good as the Bosch, and loads more money.
He uses mine all the time .
Cheap, ones are usually rubbish I am afraid.

The 7850 has almost twice the grunt of the 4850, which was two models earlier and ran Ni-Cd batteries. That said, your Bosch one has massive torque specs, no doubt helped along by 4A/h batteries.
I'm eyeballing the Makita, simply because I already have their Li-ion "system" with other cordless tools and the bare driver is affordable at $250.
If only there was a standard for battery shape/connections - we could mix and match brands and be happy more often.

I've got two Makita BTW 251 - Not much torque, but really compact/lightweight. I can highly recommend it. For the bigger stuff i use an air wrench.

I was looking at the Liftmaster 12v Impact wrench as i suspect i will only use it several times a year for home use, and its less than £40
