Diesel missfire

Sorry about this,second post and asking for help
I bought 51 plate 1.9d Berlingo or should i say saved it from the scrapyard needed a clutch thats sorted no probs there but, now i have a missfire the story goes.
1) rev counter dont work
2)Turn key glowplug light goes off and starts first touch of key and settles down to a steady tickover no smoke
Then after 30=40 seconds it starts to miss and blue/grey smoke not oil or water but thick blue/grey.
Up to know i have changed fuel filter housing/advance solinoid/injector with the wire on/cleaned out EGR valve and every wire connector around the engine.
And thats just about all i can find on the search relateing to the 1.9 DW8 think i have read all of the problem posts,so if anybody can give me a few tips on what it could be that would be great.
Cant take it to a garage due to no Tax/Test many thanks.

sound like wen something gets warm it fails?

Must get warm pretty quick,less than a minute.

Is it a regular miss as with one cylinder or is it random?

The dw8 is back to basics.. its a complete mechanical combustion engine.. no electronics on the injectors or silly sensors etc..

it could of been the other issue that sent it to scrap.. head gasket or a valve.. the greyish smoke etc is unburnt or incorrectly burnt fuel perhaps from a slightly low compression in one cylinder..

the dw8 still uses the xud bucket and shims for valve clearances.. one could be holding a valve open slightly not allowing enough compression to fire the fuel properly..

that's my thought on it due to the engines setup...

If the engine is a simple as the one in a diesel BX, the rev counter issue could be due to the wire coming off the alternator, or the brushes on their way out. On my BX, I got the battery warning light, the rev counter started playing up, and (eventually) the battery wasn't charging up. Changing the brushes sorted all the problems.

Thanks for the replies i was hoping for some thing simple and not terminal
So today i will check the clearances,is it a big job to adjust them? never messed about with buckets and shims before.
And will have a look at wiring for the rev-counter many thanks.

Checking them with feela gauge fingers is easy enough.. its when it comes to adjusting them its a pita.. the cam shaft needs to come out you then need to work out the size of the shims you need to fit instead of the one that could be too big and holding the valve open...

it does sound like as soon as oil reaches somewhere it leaks into a cylinder the timescale sound like the delay in oil pressure building for it to be pushed to the cam shaft rocker cover possibly

I can get the feelers out and check them easy enough but if the cam has to come out looks like i will have to pay, my problem is i have Rheumatoid Arthitis and my hands dont work very well at the moment simple jobs are a doddle.

Does this not have a crank sensor? No rev counter would suggest this is the fault? If you've changed the clutch then it's likely to have been disturbed?

I live in Atherton between Leigh and Bolton dont think there is a Citroen dealer near me.
And yes it as a flywheel sensor could well be that.

Oh right... I might be in bolton for a few days in a week or so... no idea yet till tomorrow...

If it was crank senor it would NOT start at all... This is still an old school in-direct injection with completely mechanical ignition..

Still, I could be wrong, Im am quite often..

Just seems odd to me that it's started right after a clutch change, and the rev counter doesn't work! Had a 1.9D Kangoo with exactly the same symptoms, cleaning the crank sensor resolved it.
