Air flow through cabin filter C5

I just changed the cabin filter on my 2005 C5. On the one I removed I noted that the air flow arrows on the edge of the filter indicated flow rear to front. I would have expected it to be the opposite. Is that correct or has the PO put the old filter in back to front? I put the new one in the same way but will swap it if it is wrong.

Looking at the citroen service docs, I cannot see it being any other way than air coming in from the engine side:
